After spending much of the last two days on the chat with QB and getting absolutely nowhere, I am back hoping maybe someone in the community can help.
I am getting this error code randomly. I was on QB Desktop 2018. I purchased a new computer and installed the 2018 on the new computer (windows 11). Started getting the error codes. QB support told me yesterday I had to upgrade to ProPlus to fix it. So I did. Still getting error codes! Tried running in compatibility mode to Windows 8, that did not help. After all day today I was told that 'back end support' would call me. At this point, I am pretty much out of faith regarding the error codes.
Does anyone have experience with this or advice? Again, the codes will pop up randomly every few minutes. Thank you for reading.
Hi, Ryan. Let me provide some extra troubleshooting guides so you can get back to business seamlessly.
I appreciate the steps you've taken to isolate the issue and thank you for upgrading your subscription to the newer edition for a seamless flow while working with your data. Since the same behavior happens after the process, you might try the following techniques to narrow down the outcome. First, update your QuickBooks to the latest release to avoid issues and get the latest features and product improvements.
Here's how:
If the issue persists, you may use the verify and rebuild tool to detect the most common issues in your file and fix them immediately.
Additionally, you can run the Quick Fix my file or the QuickBooks File Doctor to fix common data issues in QBDT. For more guidance, look at the following articles:
If you have any further questions while tracking your company entries using QuickBooks Desktop, please leave a comment below. I'm only here to assist. Have a wonderful day!
I have already upgraded from 2018 to Pro Plus. So I can not go back. All the steps you outlined are things that I have already done.
I know you're putting so much effort and time into resolving your concern, @ryanlrosscpa.
The error you've encountered falls into our list of -6000 errors when opening a QuickBooks company file and happens to local and network setups. While rebooting your computer helps fix the issue, here are other steps to eliminate this.
Here's how:
Once done, update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release to keep your software up-to-date and have the newest features and fixes. Then, run the QuickBooks File Doctor.
If the issue persists, you can follow the solution at the bottom part of this article for how you open the company file. It's locally or over the network: Fix error -6000 when opening a company file. Otherwise, I'd recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support Team. This way, you can have a screen-sharing session with them to investigate this matter and find a possible fix.
Stay in touch if you have any other QBDT errors encountered. I’ll be right here to answer them for you.
Why is my error code not on the list?
Do you need to open *.qbw or *.qbb file?
I am working in qbw. My files will open, but his error code is constantly popping up.
Thanks for getting back to us, Ryan. We appreciate you sending us further details.
Please know that we don't want you to experience any errors or challenges that could affect your business operations. Open your company file on QBD 2018, create a backup file, and restore it with a new name.
I was having the same problem with my 2023 pro that i just bought last month. I called tech support and they did zero troubleshooting and kept trying to sell me something new… saying I needed to activate my subscription. Like I said he did zero troubleshooting and was 100% uninterested in doing anything but making a commission off of me. I refused and he said he’d have a supervisor give me a callback. Which never happened. So what I did was save a company back up into a flash drive and uninstalled QuickBooks. I ran ccleaner a bunch of times to clean any quickbooks files off of my computer and then reinstalled it. Now I do not get the error at all. I don’t think you needed to purchase anything new. I am so angry with QuickBooks and it’s shady way of scamming people. They are a terrible company and sooooooo shady. Their tech support reps have zero morals and don’t care about ripping you off to make a commission. This company should be reported to the better business bureau (I’m in Canada). In fact, I think I will report them.
Same error keeps happening to me as well. Been on the phone with QB support 4 weeks in a row. Error still happening. I've done everything that is suggested in the previous responses, so now, I'm going to try your way. Thanks.
Hey - listen up closely everyone who has this error code. My problem is 100% solved. It was malware that was placed on my machine. The window that pops up when you get the error code is part of the malware. The phone number on the window that it says to call is part of the malware. If you call that number - you are calling those who placed the malware on your machine! They tried to sell me support that was several thousand dollars. The phone number of Intuit's fraud line is [removed]. I spoke with this phone number, they pointed me to the files to delete of my machine, and once I did that I have been working in my QB just fine. If you have other questions please let me know!
That makes sense. My error came back after reinstalling QB. I’m on the phone with QB today and they said it’s a scam number. How do I get rid of the malware?
I’ve got bad news. The error started again after installing QB. I had one day free of the error but now it’s back. There is a gentleman who posted that it’s malware put on the computer. This makes sense because QuickBooks said this is a new known scam that people are calling in for service and getting told they need to buy something!
The fraud department person I spoke with directed me to the files that needed to be deleted. I suggest contacting that office and see if they can assist you. My antivirus software did not pick it up.
It looks like they removed the phone number that I posted. Sure wish the community would allow that so people could be helped out. I think you can get the same support by just calling the main support line at 800 446 8848.
