How do I upgrade from QB self -employed to QB accountant without losing all of my client's data?

Great to have you here in the Community, @mandysedlock. I’ll help you with upgrading from QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) to QuickBooks Account (QBOA).

We can upgrade from QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) to QuickBooks Online (QBO). Nevertheless, we were unable to do that with QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA). You'll have to export and import your data into your QBOA.

To do so, here’s how:

  1. In QuickBooks Self-Employed, select the Transactions menu.
  2. Select the transaction types, accounts, and time period you want to download from the dropdown menus.
  3. Click the download icon and save the file.

You can now import it once it's finished. You may get extensive instructions on how to import and convert QBSE to QBO at these links:

If you're migrating to QuickBooks Desktop Accountant, you can use the methods in the article on how to import and export transactions to QuickBooks Desktop to get started: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you have any further questions about upgrading subscriptions in QuickBooks, simply click the Reply button. I’ll be around to assist you. Have a great day!

@mandysedlock

You may need to utilize an importer tool or purchase a 3rd party migration service.
