Join nowShort version: Was running QuickBooks Pro 2019 on laptop that had to be replaced to due a hardware failure. The hard drive on failed computer was good so repair shop gave it to me for restoring my data. Installed QuickBooks Pro 2019 on new laptop. Tried to figure out how to get data from old hard drive, now hooked up to new laptop as an external hard drive, but...how?? I see files but what to choose? I'm lost!
Solved! Go to Solution.
1. Firstly, find any *.qbw, *.qbb, *.qbm, *.adr in your external hard drive, copy those files to your local drive in the new machine.
2. Install QB Desktop 2019 on your new machine.
3. Try to open any *.qbw or restore any *.qbb files

Thank you! This helped immensely. Turns out I should have run updates to the install of quickbooks on the new computer after installing it as it wasn't functioning properly. Once I did that, your instructions helped me get my company files up and running. Thank you again.
Thank you for your help - Since the help option you mentioned didn't show up on my version of QuickBooks, it led me to check for updates to Quick Books 2019, which there were many. Once they installed, the program worked better and I was able to retrieve my data.
