re-installing Quickbooks Pro 2010

Thank you for reaching the Community, clarkecd.

Yes, you can install QuickBooks Desktop 2010 on Windows 10 as long as you still have the product details and the installer. After that, you may restore a copy of your current company file from there.

Just to give you a heads up, we can't promise a trouble-free experience since this QuickBooks version is no longer supported.

Once you installed it on your laptop, you can now restore your company file.

Like this:

  1. From the File menu, select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Choose Restore a backup copy.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Locate the copy of your company file, and then click Open.
  5. When ready, click Save.

You can also check this article to fix company file issues using the QuickBooks Tool hub under Step 2: Run Quick Fix my File: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.

I also recommend upgrading your QuickBooks to a newer version. You can check this link for more information: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you still have other questions. I'll be happy to help. Enjoy your day.

re-installing Quickbooks Pro 2010

I just bought a new computer and had my old one cloned to it. I tried to open QuickBooks Pro 2010 and can't. I have the original disc and license #. I contacted the chat line today and they say I am out of luck. I am 76 years old and don't want to change or try to learn new stuff. I have never used any of the extras such as payroll extra. I started using Quick books, then went to QuickBooks pro 2000 the upgraded to 2010. All my information is now lost unless I can open this disc. Please help me. Thanks

Which Windows OS do you run on the new machine? Win 10 or Win 11?

re-installing Quickbooks Pro 2010

Hello there, Nechako.

I appreciate you for contacting our phone support team. I'm here to guide how you can open the QuickBooks software to the new computer.

Since you have the QuickBooks Desktop 2010 version, it's possible that the OS is not compatible. As a workaround, you may open QuickBooks using the compatibility mode. I'm here to guide you through the steps:

  1. Right-click on the QuickBooks Desktop icon.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Go to the Compatibility field.
  4. Tick Run this program in compatibility mode for box.
  5. Select any type of Windows.
  6. Click Apply.

If the compatibility mode didn't work on your end, our only way is to upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest one. if you want to stay using Windows 10, you can upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop 2019, 2020, and 2021. I've added this reference for the detailed steps to upgrade: Upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop subscription.

Feel free to browse this page if you have some concerns about managing your QuickBooks file: Help Articles.

I'm around whenever you need help. I'm here to assist you.
