Attempting to move QB 2017 from a Win7 machine to new Win11.
We followed the instructions for the migrator and successfully have the data on a flash drive.
We inserted the flash drive in the new Win11 machine. Executing the flash drive migrator.exe file opens a window requesting the temporary password which we supplied and was accepted.
However, the next window to persistently fails with the unhelpful comment: 'Something went wrong, Try again later;'
QUESTION 1: Is the process failing due to QB being 2017 and Intuit wants a current version?
QUESTION 2: We started to try the manual process but we need to clarity something first. The 'find account' page says it works across Intuit's programs. But, If we have data files for two different instances of QB for two different companies we're concerned that having the same account number might mix up and automatically (in some way) the data files and not keep them separate as they are now?

When moving QuickBooks to a new device, there are system requirements you take into consideration. You will get the above-mentioned error message if the criteria are not satisfied. The following operating systems work with QBDT 2017:
Furthermore, since you're restoring the file per business if you manually move QuickBooks, data files will not be affected or mixed up.
Feel free to check out these handy articles on how you can manage installation:
Hope everything goes well on your end. Reach out back for additional concerns regarding this or QuickBooks. We'll do our best to respond as soon as possible. Take care.
Hi markg22bb,
It seems like the migrator tool will not work on your Lenovo. We can check that one with the help of our Support team. However, you may also consider downloading the installer from our website to that computer and doing the installation process. Then, just back up and restore your company files.
Check out the Download and Updates page and select no on the question about multiple computers so you can proceed on downloading the install manager. Just run it to download the installer.

We decided to make the process easier and transfer the other company (QB 2022) that currently runs on a Dell Windows 10 laptop to the New Lenovo laptop and New Dell desktop.
We \used the migration tool. We first transferred to the new Dell desktop which was *successful.
However, when we tried transferring to the new Lenovo Win11 laptop the process failed upon clicking either the .bat or .exe file.
We have another identical (I purchased both laptops at the same time last week at Costco) New Win11 Lenovo laptop. Failed.
Here are the additional steps we took to weed out any possible interference:
1. Created a new migration flash drive from the same old laptop and changed the one-time password.
2. Reformatted the flash drive
3. Ran the migration .exe file with Windows compatibility
4. Instead of creating the migration flash drive on the old laptop we created the flash drive using the 'just transferred' QB on the New Dell laptop.
ALL attempts failed with the identical error message: 'QB migration failed unexpectedly'
Suggestion?

They claim QB Desktop 2022 supports Win 11 natively. Unfortunately reality says otherwise. If you are not yet using your new computer, you will have to ask your store or someone else to downgrade the OS to Win 10 Home instead with the same license key. You may consider upgrading your computer back to Win 11 next year.
A note to say THANKS for hanging with us. Downloading the .exe and restoring worked like a charm.
one last question from the experience. Can you say offhand, +/- how frequent a migration tool failure has been. Frankly, I'm a bit concerned that both, brand new Lenovo laptops failed to work with your tool. Since I'm within Costco's return window I'd return both machines and select another manufacturer if my situation rarely occurs.
Thanks again,
Mark
Thanks for getting back, @markg22b.
There's no exact instance of how frequently an issue occurs when moving QBDT files to another computer. Once we make sure you're using a supported operating system, you'll always be able to transfer your data successfully.
If you're trying to move QuickBooks Desktop 2017 to another computer, let's ensure to meet these OS requirements to avoid errors.
Since your device is using Win 11, I'd recommend downgrading your OS to Win 10 as suggested by Fiat Lux - ASIA.
After successfully reinstalling QBDT 2017 to another computer, here's what you might need to do:

I already purchased a new Dell computer to transfer my 2017 Quickbooks desktop program over to. It is a Windows 11 system, will it work? I have not tried yet, I am ready to attempt it. Any advice from an average computer person?
Thanks in advance
Thanks for dropping by the Community and joining this thread to share your concern, @apmatrex. I'll chime in and provide the information you need about moving your QuickBooks Desktop to a new computer.
QuickBooks Desktop 2017 version is no longer supported with Windows 11. You can still use this but may encounter issues while using the program.
You'll want to ensure your Dell computer meets the operating system for running the QBDT seamlessly.

Once you're ready to install the product, here's a guide that can guide you throughout the process: Install QuickBooks Desktop.
Drop by this thread again if you have future concerns with QBDT. I'm here to help.
QBD 2017 doesn't support Win 11. Try to install it on Win 8 compatibility mode. If you encounter issue, you can purchase a new license for QB Desktop 2023 Pro Plus. I can share a method to get a $100 as cashback if you are interested.
Any QB Desktop version after 2019 requires a yearly subscription. 2024 jumped from $382 per year to $710 (w/ taxes). QB representative said that next year the least expensive desktop version will be $1,400 per year. The Online QB is $645 per year PER COMPANY. Quickbooks seems to be uninterested in keeping small businesses as customers.
You can still purchase QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus for single user = $650 (tax exempt, can get $100 cashback). Then you can renew it until 2027. If you don't need the payroll module, I can share another option to consider to keep using QB Desktop with a non subscription license. Contact me in private for details.
