QB sold on eBay cheap. What's the catch?

Some outfit is selling QB 2018 Premier Accountant Edition on eBay for $49. I believe they're out of the U.K. No disc, download link and product key provided. What's the deal? Yes, it sounds too good to be true...I don't need the newest version or any support. Is this a legal copy? (They say it is...)

You may purchase the one time license of QB Desktop Premier Accountant edition thru a partner/reseller. But the price is too suspicious and I am not sure it is a brand new license. As long as you are able to find the license on your own CAMPS later, you got a very good price.

I am apparently behind the curve. What is CAMPS?

Once we install the new license for the first time, we have to create an Intuit ID or use our existing one. The license will be registered in our CAMPS later.

Welcome to the Community, WV-CPA.

The Customer Account Maintenance Portal (CAMPs) is a platform that allows subscribers to manage their account in one location.

I've included a brief video tutorial, which covers how accounts can be managed from there:

Also, here's how to sign in:
1. Go to CAMPs.
2. Log in with your Intuit Account details.
3. If you see multiple products, choose QuickBooks Desktop.

You'll be able to find more helpful information about using the Customer Account Maintenance Portal in our What is CAMPs & how do I use it? article.

I additionally read over your initial post and can see you're saying that no disc, download link, or product key are provided from this seller. If you've yet to purchase it, you'll want to be aware that sales on Ebay and other 3rd-party websites aren't eligible for returns through Intuit. You'd have to contact the seller/website where your product was purchased for details on how to return it. You can also reach out to them for verifying specifics about what you're considering purchasing.

In the event you've already purchased a copy, you'll want to get in touch with the seller if you have any questions, didn't receive what you expected, etc. There's also the option of contacting your financial institution and disputing the transaction as a chargeback if necessary.

Please feel more than welcome to post a reply if there's any other questions. Have a great day!

They do provide a download link and product key. That's why it sounds too good to be true in the US. They're out of the U.K.

@WV-CPA

As I said in earlier post, we don't know whether it is legit or not until we install it. We may find a reuse license or a cracked license easily in the market.

Is there any problem with buying and using a used "reuse" license?  Is it legal?  Will I have all funtionality of the Dekstop Pro application as well as CAMPS?

If I buy a used manufacturers copy of Quickbooks, will I be able to register it in my own CAMPS and have full funcitonality of Desktop Pro and CAMPS?

@seanyounk

You can purchase it with your own risk. You may get a refurbished license or the stolen one. Just to clarify, why do you consider to purchase it? You can still purchase a one time license for QB Desktop 2020 or 2021 if required.

Lol....Have you tried to find a one time purchase copy of Desktop 2020 or 2021 lately?  IF you can find them, they are going for $350-$550 USD.  I would be better of with the 12 month subscription from Amazon for $199 or the 15 month subscription from Costco for $249.  I have decided to go with your own free Mint and get going on my personal finances.  It appears it can also export to your TurboTax so I may even try doing our own taxes next year, but not likely. I will be upgrading to Quickbooks in the future when we have more rental properties and streams of income.  This is just to get us going in the right direction since we have decided to get away from our accounting firm and have more knowledge and oversight of our finances!

-Thanks for taking the time to respond here,

Sean

Also, I forgot to mention, I did purchase a copy of Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2018 on eBay, from a reputable seller, (thinking I would be able to upgrade to 2021 after I learned the software), but it was clearly not a manufaturers product Key. 6666-6666-6666-***  It activated and seemed to work, but would not synch with any of my accounts and I certianly was not able to register it in CAMPs.  Fortunately, the seller was kind enough to refund my purchase.  Wish me luck with Mint!

We know how to get it for our clients 8)

Don't forget, you have to buy every year to make it work. This means that in year 3, your fees will exceed the old one-time license.

Explore this app. You can integrate it with QuickBooks later if required.

Understood!  My thought here is more toward; "the free Mint is good enough for now".  Perhaps I won't need the latest online version when I am ready to upgrade.  Perhaps that is only for folks that need to run payroll etc.  If I find that to be the case, I am hoping by then, the one time payment versions will be cheaper because they won't [then] be supported for a few online functions like payroll etc.  I am hoping this will lead to a bunch of them coming on the market over the next year or two, but perhaps they will be in even higher demand by people like me who could use an outdated desktop version forever.  I am not sure.  Truthfully, I did not find the user interface to be that great when I was using the 2018 version.  If I do have to upgrade to full one time payment version or a subscription service later, I will likely subscribe to a much cheaper version of Quicken that will likely do everything I need.  I am only taking all the time to write this because I am certain more and more people will have to deal with this since you guys are no longer offering the one time payment desktop versions past 2021.
