Join nowHello, I bought Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2021 because I was told that this version did not require a paid subscription (that this was the last version available that did not require a paid subscription).
However, when I open the software after install, I get a message from Quickbooks Update Service stating:
"There is a new Quickbooks software update waiting for you. Install later attempts remaining 2"
When I click on the Release Notes, one sections states:
What's important about Release 15?
Move to QuickBooks Online from QuickBooks Desktop QuickBooks Desktop favorites will move to QuickBooks Online."
I am afraid if I am forced to update, that my "non-subscription" version will be converted to REQUIRE me to pay a subscription fee?
Can anyone please let me know if I update that my version will remain "non-subscription"?
If so, is there a work around to avoid being forced to update and start paying a subscription fee? This is precisely what I was trying to avoid in the first place when I purchased Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2021.
The message means there's a software patch available, and that you're required to install it.
Given Intuit's recent no-so-good track records with these patches, forcing customers to install them isn't a good idea (it's a stupid idea) but a patch isn't the same as forcing you to upgrade to a new version.
After the patch you likely won't notice much difference when using QuickBooks.
Make sure to secure the backup file and the last installer file you used before immediately. Then you can click the button to update the patch.
Thanks for responding.
What are the steps to secure the backup file and the last installer file?
Hi there, @Fund247. I'd be glad to walk you through the steps on how to create a backup file to make sure that the data will be saved before upgrading.
To get started, let's perform the following steps to back up your company file:
I've got you an article for your reference: Create a Backup of your Company File.
I'd still suggest checking out this website: Upgrade Your Company Files after Switching to a New Version of QuickBooks Desktop. This link provides you the detailed steps on how to complete the upgrade process.
In case you see any errors when installing the software, visit this article: Fix QuickBooks Desktop Install Errors. You'll find links and steps on how to fix them.

Hello,
Where did you purchase your 2021 non subscription version? I just spoke with QB and they (of coarse) informed me that they HIGHLY discouraged purchasing a copy from anywhere. As I have absolutely no intention of going to a cloud based or subscription service to upgrade, I'm trying to find a seller of the 21 desktop, off line version.
Do you need to use QB Desktop 2021 Pro edition with a single user license?
yes - single user

@Fund247 Where did you purchase your copy of 2021 Desktop Pro?
This is where I purchased my 2021 QBP Desktop non-subscription software:
Fiat Lux has also been very helpful in answering my questions and appear reputable.
Just curious. Can you login to your CAMPS as the Primary Contact and find your license code (non subscription) there?
