I have a client with QB 2021 Enterprise Contractor edition running on a server with server workstations connecting to the DB on the server. I attempted to upgrade to 2024, but it seemed like it was just a straight up install, not an upgrade. Did I miss the option to upgrade? After the install finished on the server, I ran the process to scan the folder where the file was located. It failed for possible network or firewall issues. Why would it fail if it was working fine in 2021? Had errors when trying to open the files as well - sorry don't have the errors. I ended up reverting back to 2021 for now. Should I run 2022 update first or does that still just install, not upgrade?
Open your company files on QB Desktop 2021 and secure the backup file (*.qbb). Restore the backup file on QB Desktop 2024 to upgrade it.
I appreciate everything you've done to upgrade, @rkane17. Let me provide additional information to Deity Alpha's comment.
Upgrading the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) on the server first and then on the workstations may also help address network and firewall compatibility issues that could arise during the upgrade process. By ensuring that all components of the QBDT network are running the same version of the software, you can minimize potential conflicts and improve compatibility across the network. We can secure a back up file on QBDT 2021 version and restore them on the QBDT 2024.
Also, verifying that firewall settings allow QuickBooks to access the necessary files and folders is essential for a smooth upgrade process. If issues persist after the upgrade, further troubleshooting of network and firewall settings may be necessary to ensure proper functionality.
Additionally, you might want to check this article and learn how to update your company file so it works in newer versions: Update your company files to a new version of QBDT.
Feel free to reach out in the comments if you have additional questions about upgrading your QBDT newer version. I'll be here to assist. Have a great day ahead!
