Upgrading from 2008

Hi all. My company is finally trying to upgrade their software but it seems I need to update my quickbooks file step by step to be able to use a newer version of Desktop Pro. I called support but my license is so old they have no info on file (our QB compute is air-gapped for security). Can anyone help me find the old trial versions? Going from 2008 to 2021 of Desktop Pro. Thanks in advance.

You will need to use QBD 2011, 2015 and 2018 to upgrade your company file. Contact me in private and we can share the trial codes or purchase our upgrade service.

Hi there, @dave267.

Yes, @Fiat Lux - ASIA is correct. Since your company file is old, you'll have to gradually upgrade your company file until you reach the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop. But before anything else, you'll want to secure a backup copy so you can restore it in the 2011 version and repeat it to QBDT 2015 and 2018 until you reach the newer version of the program. We'll gladly write down the steps below:

  1. In QuickBooks, go to the File menu and select Switch to Single-user Mode.
  2. Go to the File menu again and hover over Back up Company. Then select Create Local Backup.
  3. In the window, select Local Backup and then Next.
  4. In the Local Backup Only section, select Browse and select where you want to save your backup company file.
  5. Set the number of backups you want to keep. This is optional.
  6. This runs a test to make sure your backup file is in good shape before you save.
  7. When you're ready, select OK.
  8. Select Save it now and Next.
