When moving from desktop to online, can you limit the dates that transfer?

Hi there, sheri11.

Almost the entire company file will be converted to QuickBooks Online.

However, we're unable to select a certain type of data or dates during the conversion process. Please take note of the types of data that doesn't come over to the online version in this article: What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online

Let me also share a couple of Help articles that you might need after migration:

Hello,

If you are currently on desktop and wanting to migrate to online but only take a certain date forward, this is what I recommend.

1. make a full backup of your data.

2. Run a "Condense Data" and select the date you want to remove all transactions prior to

3. Once condense is done, convert THAT file with the removed transactions to QB Online.

This way you still have a full backup of your desktop data in case you need to access it.

@sheri11

Open your data file on the trial license of QB 2020 and condense it to split the data as mentioned by MarshallA.

Make sure you have open a QBO account

When moving from desktop to online, can you limit the dates that transfer?

Hi Team,

I have a QB online account already- Essential plan. Can I condense the data on it or I have to download the trial license of QB 2020 as Fiat me tion ? Because I only want to transfer 2020- up to now data to QB online, I dont need the previous years. Is this cause any problem/mistake for my data if I only have 20220-now data?

I am thinking about : manual to record again on QB online from 1/1/2020. Do you think I should do that? :)
is there any article/tutorial that I can read/watch how to condense the data please? Thank you so much for your help! Really appreciate!

@HaPhung

The Condense Data utility to split the file as I mentioned earlier is available on QBD 2019 and later versions.

You can utilize the trial license for QBD 2022 Enterprise to upgrade your file prior to migrating it to QBO. Make sure to purge your QBO account and run the migration again. If your QBO Essential account > 60 days old, you have to open a new blank one.
