Unable to convert Quicken data for Quickbooks (desktop)

Hello QuickBooks Community,

I am attempting to make the switch from Quicken (Version R37.66) to QuickBooks (desktop version).

I have downloaded the Quicken 2022 Conversion Tool (I also tried the 2021 version) but have not been successful in converting my data file. When I originally attempted to restore my backed up data, the conversion process would originally get locked up almost instantly and just be stuck at "not responding" for hours and even overnight with no changes.

I thought perhaps the data file might be corrupt, so I validated/repaired the file within Quicken and tried converting the new data file. This got me a bit further, but still ends up leading to the program crashing (see photo) - I have tried this nearly a dozen times now with the same result every time.
I also have downloaded the trail version of QuickBooks Desktop (specifically Quicken Enterprise Solutions 22.0) and tried to convert the Quicken file via the QuickBooks Utility Converter, however I get a "Failed to load the DB.DLL" error message (see photo).

I don't know what else to attempt to do besides cutting down the file size, but I couldn't find anywhere that pointed to the size of my file being too large - my file size is approximately 350MB.

I have called QuickBooks support, but they simply gave me the number for Quicken support despite the converter tool being hosted by QuickBooks, not Quicken.

Thank you,

Tyler

Let's ensure you're able to convert data from Quickens to QuickBooks Desktop, @Anonymous.

Thank you for letting us know exactly what the error message is. I can assist you in resolving the issue and transferring the data.

Which Quicken version did the QDB file come from? A QDB file from an older Quicken version, such as 2012, could be the reason for the file's failure to load.

In that case, you'll first need to Quicken file to Quicken 2022 before you convert it to QBDT 2022. Here's the link to download the conversion tool: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/convert-quicken-data-quickbooks-desktop/L3U83Vw9O_US_en_US.

After that, start installing and the conversion process:

  1. Open the downloaded Quicken Converter and hit Next.
  2. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and hit Next.
  3. To begin the installation of the Quicken Converter, select Next and then click on Install.
  4. Choose Launch Quicken Converter and then select Finish.
  5. Select I am transferring data from Quicken for Windows and hit Get Started.
  6. Choose Open a data file located on this computer, then click on Select File.
  7. Search to select your Quicken file ( .QDF) file and hit OK.
  8. Click on Convert it!, then hit OK.
  9. To save your new Quicken Data File (.QDF) file, hit Save.
  10. Click on the Exit button.

For more details about the conversion process, see this: Convert Quicken data to QuickBooks Desktop.

Hit the Reply button if you need more help with the conversion or QuickBooks in general. We're here to guide you all the way. Take care!

Thank you for the reply Mich.

I have already tried using the converter tool you linked to and it did not work - see my original post about trying both the 2022 and 2021 versions of the tool.

I can't find the exact year of my Quicken, but I know its not more then a couple of years old (100% not older then 2018).

@Anonymous

I am not following the release version for Quicken. Which Quicken year version do you have?

It seems you are using Quicken 2019. You can open a sample file and send it to us. We can help to try converting it to QB Desktop 2019 to make sure.

I'm going to try contacting support, but to add to this...

I created a new test file in my Quicken and added a few entries. I then used the Conversion Tool and all it did was create a .qxf which was not readable by QuickBooks. So, I used the converter Utility within QuickBooks and it got my test file converted just fine.

There must be something wrong with my original Quicken file, or perhaps it is too large.

Hopefully support can help.

Chat Support and ask Data Service to help. Otherwise, you have to purchase a 3rd party conversion service.
