Use Database Server Manager on a cloud enviorment

Hello everyone,

I've been struggling with this issue for quite some time with no help or resources from Quickbooks support.
Unfortunately my impression is that they simply don't know networks or how this app is supposed to work.

So with no further ado here's some pointers to help you host your database server on a cloud environment or for remote users.

The basic secret is in the server's name.

Let me explain, when a workstation is on the same LAN as the DB server manager, QB is looking for a connection to it via the hosting computer server name on a random port.

In order to connect to a computer that is on a different network what you'll is the following:

Step 1

Install only the DB Server Manager on the hosting computer (cloud or otherwise).

Step 2

Scan the shared folder used for storing and sharing the QBW files.

Step 3

Monitor the Database server tab inside the DB Server Manager. You should see no file connections.

Step 4

On your remote workstation. Make a connection to the DB Server Manager computer via VPN or directly with it's public IP (configure your gateway).

Step 5

Edit your computer's hosts file to match the computer where DB Server Manager is installed with an accessible IP of the work station.

Step 6

Open the QBW file (multi-user mode) using the hosting computer's name, the one you just added to your hosts file.

That's it. Check the Database Server tab from Step 3, you should see active connections.

I hope this helps others who are facing a similar issue.
Reach out here for help if you need it.

Cheers

Do you have documentation for DB Server Manager deployment in a Terminal Server environment?  And, from DB Server Manager, can we perform version and application update tasks across all servers?

Do you have documentation on use of DB Server Manager in a Terminal Server environment?  Also, can version and app updates be administered through DB Server Manager for all servers/users?

Use Database Server Manager on a cloud enviorment

We're glad you've come to this forum, mm. I've got the assistance you need when using the Database Server Manager in a Terminal Server environment.

Beforehand, let's ensure your QuickBooks Desktop system requirements are up-to-date to ensure the server is compatible with your file, and you must sign in n as a Windows user with Admin rights to allow permissions in enabling changes in your data.

Once ready, here's how to install QuickBooks Desktop on a terminal server environment:

  1. Close all open applications.
  2. On your keyboard, press Windows+to open the Run command.
  3. Type CMD, then select OK to open the Command Prompt.
  4. To change the User Mode to install, type change user /install, then press Enter.
  5. Download QuickBooks Desktop. Then, install it.
  6. Reopen the Command Prompt.
  7. Type change user /execute to change to Execute mode, then press Enter.

Additionally, all application and version updates on your file will automatically apply their changes to all servers or users through your DB Server Manager.

Furthermore, you can manage and perform specific features when accessing your company file in a single or multi-user mode. Also, if you encounter errors when switching to multi-user mode, you can fix H202 and H505 that are blocking the connection to your server.

We'd willingly provide additional help for any added queries when managing server networks in your account. You're always welcome to leave a reply below. Keep safe!
