When I open quickbooks it opens one of our companies and works fine, but when I try to log out of the company to be able to open a different company, Quickbooks just closes. I've tried to go to file Open or Restore Company and the same thing happens. Also, have tried file Open previous company and can see the company I want to open but it crashes. Also, have tried the Quickbooks tool hub and that did not fix it.
Hi there, @jzs.
Utilizing the QuickBooks Tool Hub is a good choice, as it also fixes different problems and errors while using the application. However, right now, there is an ongoing investigation that our engineers are currently looking into about customers showing no option to use the feature.
In this, I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team. This way, they can add your company file to the list of affected users and provide this investigation number for easy tracking: INV-90451.

Thank you, but I can't open the file to rebuild that company's data file? Wouldn't it be rebuilding data for the open company file? The company file that most likely needs rebuilt, I cannot open. When I open Quickbooks the company datafile that it opens works fine. It's a different company datafile that I need to open and can't.
Good day, @jzs.
I appreciate your elaboration regarding the file you can't open. Let's perform additional troubleshooting steps intended for this file. Rest assured that I'll do what I can to help you.
Yes, verify and rebuild data is for the open company file. The verify tool finds the most common issues in a company file then the rebuild tool fixes them.
Since the company file won't open, update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release from our website. Please know you can only access a company file (.QBW) and ensure it's not compressed or encrypted.
In addition, QuickBooks can reopen any windows that were left open when you closed your company file. However, if a report or multiple windows will open automatically, it could cause the software to freeze during startup.
If so, this instruction will open your company file without saved windows:
If it works, turn off the Save the desktop when closing preference by following these steps:

Can you open the file on QBD 2023?
So I updated to Quickbooks desktop pro plus 2023 and was able to get into the other company. HOWEVER, once I tried to logoff so that I could then go into the other company, it CRASHES!
Also, when I open Quickbooks it opens to the open company file. I cannot get to the screen where no company file is open, that is the problem.
Having the same issue. Started yesterday. Try to log out and open other company and Quickbooks closes. When I reopen Quickbooks only last company worked on is visible.
I found a work around! When it pulls up the company login info, hit cancel and it should bring up your list of companies!!!

Are there any updates to this? I am using Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2023. It seems that there was a fix but it was short lived. Quickbooks still closes on log out and reopens only showing last company worked on.
Thanks for participating in the thread, @sharico180. I'll update you on the issues that occur when opening companies in QuickBooks Desktop.
I've checked here on my end and found out that the investigation about QBDT crashes when opening a file through the Open Previous Company feature is still ongoing. For now, you should close the company you are in, then go to Open Company and select the company you want to open next.
If you haven't reached out to our Customer Support Team, you may follow the steps shared by LieraMarie_A. This is to ensure you'll get an update about the resolution status. They have to collect personal data to add your company and product to the list of affected users and provide this investigation number for easy tracking: INV-90451.
I'll add these resources that contain fix general problems when your company file won't open and how to back up your QuickBooks files and folders using Intuit Data protect:
Please bear with us as we're working to fix this as soon as possible. If you have any other concerns about opening your company file, please let me know in your reply.
I've got a ticket # that we fought with something like this for weeks. 151-026-05-221
We tried everything. Rebuild, Condense, fix, send to data services, etc. The last thing that worked was something that my client actually figured out.
The fix ended up to be to ensure that every user has an intuit account, and that they are signed into it inside Quickbooks itself. This company had two files. The file that has problems, and the file that does not.
The broken file, when launched, would crash to desktop 100% of the time when launched fresh. However, it could usually be opened as a second company AFTER opening the working file. The working file is 2 years old. The broken one is 15 years old, but has been condensed, been through data services, etc.
We used the working file to get the users signed up and signed into an intuit.com account. After doing this, we can now open the broken file with no drama.
I hope this helps someone else.
