What happened to the option to search by description in "Advanced Search"? This wass most useful field for me, and I do not see it - is it hidden somewhere?

Advance Search - New Format for QB Online

Welcome back @mcglynnhaysandco.

QuickBooks Online made a bunch of changes to the interface give you a better experience. And modified a lot of things to make it more user-friendly.

I understand that using the Advanced Search feature to search for transactions was the most helpful option for you. However, it seems that the new interface no longer includes the ability to search by description. However, there's an option for you to revert back to the old interface let me take you there:

  1. At the top right corner click the magnefying icon
  2. Below the pop up window click the Advanced Search.
  3. At the top right click Go to classic Advanced Search.

Once you're in the Classic Advanced Search, let me show you how to search for transactions using the description. Below the All Transaction Lines section, you'll find an option to select Line Description. In the third rectangular box, you can enter the description you want to search for. This will allow you to find the transactions based on their descriptions.

I would like to provide you this article to with our new functionality of Advanced Search: Search for transactions in QuickBooks Online

If you have any questions or run into any issues with the new QuickBooks Online interface, just let me know here. I'm here to help you out whenever you need it.

Well, then, it's not a better experience, is it? So, I guess you've failed.

Also, "you guys"?  Really?

I have the same issue, and there is no choice to switch to a classic view.

Please add back the description and memo search function.

In fact it says in the field box "search by transaction details like memo, amount or reference number"  Sorry but memo is not given as a field to use.

Please fix the date issue too, add the option of "All dates"

Thanks for joining the thread, @jennifer867.

I can see how these options would help you in searching specific transactions in QuickBooks. Thus, I'll take note of this as a suggestion to improve your experience in the program.

You can also personally send feedback to our developers with regard to adding All dates in the Date drop-down list. They can review your request and most likely include them in future updates. Here's how:

  1. Go to Settings and select Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then, click Next to submit feedback.

Your valuable feedback goes to our Product Development team to help improve your experience in QuickBooks Online. You can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

If you're unable to see the Go to classic Advanced Search after following the steps above, let's open your account in a private window. Doing this will help us check if there's an issue with your regular browser.

  • Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox ).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

If it works, let's clear your browser's cache to delete temporarily stored files and free some space on your browser. You can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers to be thorough.

Once you're on the Classic Advanced Search window, you'll have the option to select Line Description and Memo in the drop-down list.

Please let me know if you have any other concerns related to the Advanced search feature in QuickBooks. I'll be more than happy to help you out.

The advanced search changed now I cannot search for line descriptions nor search for just the last 4 digits of an invoice rather have to enter the whole thing. CHANGE IT BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS. IF SOMETHING WORKS WHY CHANGE IT.

THE GO BACK TO CLASSIC ADVANCED SEARCH DOES NOT APPEAR. The new changes made things a whole lot worse and much harder to find things. What are the developers doing.

Advance Search - New Format for QB Online

Based on the various comments here, it seems most all of their recent "improvements" include significant loss of functionality.

I'm stumped as to what's going on. It's a really strange trend, to strip an already-basic product of a bunch of useful functionality customers care about - while at the same time trying so hard to convince QB Desktop users that QB Online is a good solution for them, despite the already-significant loss of functionality they'll experience after converting.

I don't have the option to switch back to classic advanced search.  why can't I do this?

Hello there, @mkrogers258. I see the benefits of having the option to switch back to classic advanced search. I'm here to guide you on how to access it.

Please know that once you click the new advanced search experience, you can switch back to the classic advanced search.

Refer to the screenshot below on how to access it.

If the option still doesn't appear, let's open your QuickBooks account in a different browser or private window to rule out any browser-related issues. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl+ Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

If this works, return to your regular browser and clear your cache. Occasionally, the accumulated cache and cookies in the system can become outdated or corrupted, leading to unexpected behaviors. Additionally, you can switch to other supported browsers that are already installed, which is also a good alternative.

On the other hand, if you still face the same issue after trying these troubleshooting steps, I recommend contacting our customer care support team. They have specialized tools to conduct a thorough investigation and guide you in resolving the issue.

Moreover, in QuickBooks Online, you can run various reports and personalize them to gain insight into your business transactions.

You can connect with me again if you need further clarification regarding the advanced search feature. Just click the reply button below, and I'll get back to you.

I have already tried all of those things.  First off there is not magnifying glass as you have shown.  I use the desktop app but I even went back to using a browser and cleared all cache's and still didn't have the magnifying glass or the option to go back to classic advanced search.  I've used the new search and have found now that when searching using memo to search that unless you type in the memo as it was entered into originally it will not find it. We use this function for EVERYTHING!  I  can't stress enough how horribly frustrating it is to keep having to learn new and more difficult ways to use a once functioning system.  I spent more than an hour trying to get this system to work so I can effectively do my job.  An hour doing something that I already didn't have time to be doing.  My days are already extremely busy and extremely stressful without you all adding to it.  Are you going to pay me for my time?  I already work 11 hour days don't make them 12 and up.

ABSOLUTELY. If something works well why change it?! I need to get back to the classic search and can't figure out how to get back to it. There are so many things wrong with the new advanced search I must get back. It affects my job in a HUGE way in a negative backwards way. This was anything but an improvement - it was going backwards/took away helpful tools.
