It's on their roadmap. They "want" you to switch to QBO by making QBD "expensive". You can explore the free program like the one I mentioned in the previous post.
I'm being charged $595. I can replace the software cheaper???
Do you have QB Desktop Pro Plus for single user + QB Payroll for 10 employees?
I have QB Pro desktop 2019
I do quarterly payroll for 1 to 2 employees, one is me and I don't always take a paycheck.
I am the only user, 1 pc. windows
I have asked the same. Until just now, I have never paid an annual subscription with desktop, every 3 years or so I just buy the new one. This sux. On-line can be bought for $15/mo~
I never paid an annual subscription before, just buy new desktop cd every 2-3 years. WOW crazy expensive for nothing that I use except updates to software~
Like you Bob.. I just pay myself. I'm just a one man shop. My payroll subscription is through my CPA. He allows us to piggy back off him instead of us having to get our own. But the amount they want per year is absurd. But you won't save any by going to the online version. I personally did what you did.. go about every 3 years and then upgrade. It's insane.. everything is going this way. I'm in the digital world.. so I have to have subscriptions for just about all my software now. When the WEF put out that stupid video of you will rent everything and own nothing.. they weren't kidding. But opposite of that video, I'm not happy about it.
Whatever you do, do NOT switch to QBO. (Quickbooks Online). It is FAR from user friendly, and is ALWAYS broken or having issues.
That's what I've heard ty
I have been using Quickbooks since 2000 and what I don't understand is why do I NOW need to purchase an annual subscription, when I've NEVER had to before. The rep says it started in 2022 but I researched my charges and did not pay one unless it came with the installation of the 2022 upgrade that I purchased for $199 at our local office supply location. Now the subscription fee is over $500 annually!!! The only way I could use my payroll feature was to purchase this subscription on top of paying the basic payroll annual fee (which I always have). What does one have to to do with the other? I do not upgrade Quickbooks every year because there are no significant changes. I normally do it every other year and have certainly not paid $ 500 for an upgrade. I felt forced to purchase the subscription in order to continue to use a product I've used for over 20yrs and now have to continue to pay.....? I don't need any of the service the "Intuit Quickbooks Plus Annual Subscription Pro" offers. I back up my own quickbooks and have NEVER had to call them for any issues other than they can't verify my payroll subscription, although it's right there and active......????? Bad business Quickbooks!!
I had the exact same scenario. I purchased the 2021 DeskTop Pro Plus version and fortunately I had to replace the credit card associated with my account so I was not charged the annual subscription. Although, now I can't access my program!
Admittedly when I look at the product it does say subscription which I didn't realize at the time I was signing up for.
I have used QuickBooks for over 20 years and have never been charged a subscription fee. I despise the online verson and have no interest in using it!
I would like to find out how to just go back to the regular DeskTop and get out of this loop.
Help!

How do I purchase thru Partners? I would like to do this
Where is your location? US or another country?
Welcome to the Community space, @Ps Mimi.
Let me share some information on how you can purchase QuickBooks through partners.
As mentioned by our Community backer Fiat Lux - ASIA, may I know where is your location? This way, I can share the nearest store you can purchase QuickBooks.
There are lots of partners and third-party websites that sell QuickBooks. You'll want to visit the nearest store or contact legit retailers and purchase your QuickBooks products from there.
Once you purchase your QBDT product make sure to get the authorization or validation code provided by them. Then, you can now start the installation process. For the step-by-step guide, you can refer to this article: Install QuickBooks Desktop.
In case you run into errors when installing QBDT, please see this article for your reference on how to fix them: Fix QuickBooks Desktop install errors.
Also, to further help you get started with QBDT, I'd recommend checking out this article: Get started with QuickBooks Desktop.
Feel free to let me know how it goes in the comments below. I'm just around to help if you have other concerns about QBDT program. Take care always.
Exact thing happened to me. I’m not sure how I went from desktop version to an annual subscription service but just noted my credit card get charged $549.00 for something I had no idea I signed up for. I thought I upgraded from QB desktop 2017 to QB desktop 2022 (ie a one time upgrade fee), but now basically see a 54% increase year over year??
I’ve been a QuickBooks user for 30 years. This is an unconscionable business decision by Intuit. I’m leaving QuickBooks and will do my level best to discourage every potential user from purchasing QB software. I can only hope a business with more resources than I have will sue QB for what amounts to extortion, the practice of obtaining money through force or threats. Infuriating and disappointing.
I am in VA 22815.
Can I get a list of partners in my area?
Do you have QB Desktop Enterprise or else?
Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus
Unless you need to avoid paying for your license with your credit card, there's no point buying or renewing your license (i.e Pro Plus or Premier Plus) through a partner.
I have used QuickBooks for 20+ years. My latest version is QuickBooks Pro Desktop 2020. I received notice that after May 31, 2023 my current version will no longer work and I will need to either upgrade to QuickBooks on-line or Desktop 2023. I called QB to upgrade to Desktop 2023 with payroll feature and was told my annual subscription will be $545 + monthly payroll cost per employee and that I can only purchase in a bundle of 5 years. So to upgrade today I would need to pay $2725.00 plus the monthly payroll fee.
I asked if I could pay for one or two years as we are a small business and quickly approaching retirement (less than 3 years) and was told no minimum of five years only.
Has anyone else encountered this?
Thank you

I've come to share information about the service discontinuation of the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2020 version.
Yes, you're right. With QBDT 2020 subscriptions, these desktop services will discontinue after May 31, 2023. As QuickBooks aims to develop straightforward financial tools, upgrading to its latest versions can be purchased annually. You're given options to avail of annual subscriptions which will guide you in determining the potential advantages for your company.
With that, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Sales Support team. This way, they can provide you with other options when purchasing an annual QBDT subscription. Also, to guide you in upgrading and managing your account.
Here's how to contact them:
You can visit this article for more detailed information: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
