Annual subscription

I’m not too happy. Intuit charged my CC today for $353 for Quickbooks plus an annual subscription. I’m a desktop user and not using any other services? Can someone tell me why all the sudden I’m being charged an annual subscription and why they’re updating my software without my consent? This is a first in 2 decades.

We don't want you to have this kind of experience, @CTRich.

QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus is a subscription version of QuickBooks Desktop. It'll auto-renew annually with the credit card on file so there is no service interruption. For more information about this version of QuickBooks and frequently asked questions, refer to this link:  QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus.

You can also go to the Customer Account Management Portal (CAMPs) to review where this charge is coming from. For more information on how to use CAMPS and see charges billed to your account, refer to this article: Change, manage or update your Intuit account with CAMPs.

In case you're not able to locate this amount, I suggest reaching out to our Customer Support team. They can check your account in a secure environment and verify this charge. Check this article for detailed guidance in reaching out to our Customer Support: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.

I'm always here if you need help with your account. Let me know by leaving a reply below. Take care and have a great rest of the day!

Thanks. I’ve been on CAMPS. Still not clear how I went from Desktop when I chose when to upgrade to this online renewal and annual subscription service. If I wanted to update, I would prefer to do it how I always have, by purchasing the software for $199 instead of $353. My question now is if I download what I’ve been charged for, can I then cancel my service without effecting my company file and my clients ability to pay by EFT?

@CTRich

You can download the installer for QBD 2022 and use the installation/product code to upgrade your file. Keep in mind,  when you cancel your subscription, your file(s) will be locked to QBD 2022 version. You can only open the file(s) with the same QBD 2022 version or upgrade to a newer version later. Another option, you can still purchase QBD 2021 with the one time if required.

Same!!  I purchase the desktop version each year.  I haven't purchased yet and now I'm not able to use my desktop quickbooks 2021 as my CC on file is expired and they can't charge me the $353.  What is this?

Allow me to share some insights into changing the billing information in QuickBooks Desktop, Tingwerson.

The subscription is annual when you purchase any of the QuickBooks Desktop versions. It requires you to pay yearly.

You can view your subscription details and update your billing information in the CAMPS section.

  1. Sign in to camps.intuit.com. Or learn more about signing in.
  2. Find your subscription in the Products & Services list.
  3. Select Details.
  4. In the Billing Information section, click Edit and update your billing information.
  5. Hit Save and Close.

Here's an article for reference: Change your QuickBooks Desktop payment method.

For updating the credit card for payroll billing, you can check out this article: Change your credit card for payroll billing.

Let me know if you've successfully changed your credit card on file. I'll always be around if you need further assistance.

@Tingwerson

Install the trial license for QBD 2021 to open your file for the time being. Then you can decide whether to purchase a one-time license for QBD 2021 or a subscription license for QBD 2022 Pro Plus for a single user for $275 through partners.

Where does one find the "trial code"?  I'm still baffled that they can just shut down a software that I PURCHASED!!  There was no "time limit" on what I purchased.

Same issue. Last time we did not pay for the "annual subscription" because we had no clue what it is. Our payment portal was temporally unusable. I still do not know what this subscription is since we payed for desktop not as a subscription. Anyone know what to do with this?

Hi there, @Ox3.

I'm here to share some insights and answer your concern about the subscription for QuickBooks Desktop.

QuickBooks Desktop has transitioned to a yearly subscription-based license. I understand how you feel about this, and I appreciate your feedback. Rest assured, these changes include features that benefit business with improved money management, data sync, and processing speed improvements.

To review where some of your charges came from, you cam go to the Customer Account Management Portal (CAMPs). For more information on how to use CAMPS and see charges billed to your account, refer to this article: Change, manage or update your Intuit account with CAMPs.

What are best practices regarding a QBs client that has closed/sold a business but does not want to lose all of the QBs data? Is there a series of reports that you recommend to keep? Can a business email a back up copy to their accountant so that the accountant can open it for years to come if need be, or does the accountant also lose access to the client books when the client's subscript expires?  Is there a QBs product designed for closed businesses that allows for printing reports, viewing vendor lists, etc. without the full functionality and cost of a QBs annual subscription?  Currently I am asking for a desktop client, but would have similar questions for a QB online client.

Thank you.

Hello there, @HWAccountant.

I appreciate you joining this conversation. Allow me to step in and provide the answers you're looking for concerning a client closing his business.

If your client is using a QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) stand-alone license (3 years), he can still access his files on his computer. However, his unable to continue receiving the security updates and online services, such as the following:

  • QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Services
  • Live Support
  • Online Backup
  • Online Banking

On the other hand, if he's using the Pro Plus (annual) version, he can no longer use or access his account. The company file will remain on his computer, but he needs to re-activate the service to open or view the data. I recommend saving a backup copy. Having one allows him or his accountant to restore it using a supported or trial version.

For audit purposes, it's necessary to save a copy of the general journal. I suggest exporting them in date range segments, like Jan-Feb, Mar-Apr, etc. This way, you can access them in Excel any time needed. There are also reports you can download for record-keeping purposes. That includes the following:

  • Profit and Loss
  • Balance Sheet
  • Sales Tax Liability
  • Statement of Cash Flows
  • Inventory Valuation Summary
  • Customer Balance
  • Vendor Balance

Here's how to export them:

  1. In QuickBooks, go to the Reports menu and select Reports Center.
  2. Find and open any report.
  3. Make the necessary changes.
  4. Click the Excel button on the toolbar. You can also select Print or Email to save the report as a PDF.
    Save,
  5. To create a new Excel workbook, select Create New Worksheet. If you want to update an existing workbook with the data in the open report, select Update Existing Worksheet. Select Browse and then find the workbook on your computer. Keep in mind, this overwrites the existing workbook.
  6. When you’re ready to export, select OK. To open the report in Excel, you can also select Export.

For QuickBooks Online users, here's an article that will be helpful if the subscription expires: Data Availability and Export Polices.

Please get back to me and let me know your thoughts about this. I'm here to help if you have further concerns. Have a wonderful day!

@HWAccountant

You should keep the working file (QBW) and backup file (QBB) for your archives. If you have created those files on QB Desktop 2021 or older versions, you can purchase the one time license for QB Desktop 2021 to open them later. Otherwise, you can utilize the trial version for QB Desktop to open it. For clients using QB Online, you should convert their data to QB Desktop files for achieves.

Thank you for this information.  Does this mean that the backup copy is not linked to a license or subscription directly?  I am pleased to hear that if a client sends me a backup copy, I will be able to open it despite their license expiring.

If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your book and only need basic features, you should explore this one. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). This program is quite popular in Asia and Europe.

Then to pay your bills for free by ACH, you can signup a Melio account for free.

Why would I be getting charged $700? I understand that there's an annual fee but nowhere does $700 make sense. I use only basic payroll and invoicing with 5 employees and maybe 10 invoices per week. I can't find anywhere in the pricing scheme for QB Pro Desktop that justifies this charge.

We just happened to get the subscription last year at around $250.  What is nuts, is there are no more black friday deals, so you now have to pay $549/year for the desktop subscription.  This is nuts!   Seriously.. I use Adobe for doing alot of animation work and I get their entire suite for 54.99/month.  They just recently did a black friday deal to allow users like myself to get it at $29.99/month.  Yet, somehow QuickBooks thinks that their one piece of software is worth more than the entire Adobe suite.  So sick of this rent all software bullcrap.  I liked updating my license about every three years.. but this crap is why I'm looking at other software.

If any Quickbook moderators are on here.. please explain why your software is worth more than Adobe?  Your user base is probably larger too.
