Buy nowHi,
Using QBO. The automatically generated invoice numbers started changing recently. Before the format was 101400, 101401, 101402 etc. Now it is adding an "inv" before the number and using previously used numbers afterwards so inv 101400 even though I already have a 101400 invoice.
How can I reset this?
Hello there, @Bibi Beverages.
I'll help you fix this so you'll be able to change your invoice numbers. To begin, these are the steps:
Once done, you can open an invoice to correct the number and then hit Save. After you changed the invoice number, the system will follow the format on your next next.
You might want to give this article a visit, this contains an instructional video about setting your own numbering preference in your invoice.
I'll be adding these articles to help you manage your invoices in the future.

I don't see a Sales Form Content section under my Sales tab. I think I can access it under the gear icon it checked under Gear icon > Custom Form Styles and I already have Custom Transaction Numbers clicked and have already manually updated the invoice number and saved that invoice. But when I create a new invoice it defaults back to the "inv 101400 (old invoice number)."
Hi there, @Bibi Beverages.
Once you apply changes to your invoice number, the system will automatically follow your next format.
Since you're still getting same result, I'd recommend performing some basic troubleshooting steps.
The error may appear when there's an issue with the browser. This is the reason why the invoice numbers reverts back even after changing.
The best thing that we can do is to perform some basic troubleshooting steps. This way, you can get back to your business. First, use a private browser to access your account in QuickBooks. It is also known as InPrivate in Internet Explorer and Incognito mode in Google Chrome. This browser mode doesn't record the browsing activity on your local device. You can access this by pressing the following keys:
If you're able to successfully edit the invoice number, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. If the issue persists, use another supported browser. It could be a temporary issue with QuickBooks and the current browser that you use.
Additionally, there are several financial reports you can run to track your sales income in QuickBooks. They will show you helpful insights on the things you buy and sell, and the status of your inventory.
