Thanks for getting back to me. I have done what you suggested and still get the following error.

"Backup Failed. QuickBooks was unable to back up your company file.  QuickBooks could not copy the company file."

I rebooted my machine last week and it started working again, but today I tried that and it is not working. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks!

@t2greene

Try open the sample file or create a dummy one. Are you able to backup the file?

Backup Not working

Glad to have you back in  QuickBooks Community, t2greene.

I appreciate you for trying the troubleshooting steps suggested by my colleague above. Let's set up QuickBooks Desktop to use the new company file. Just check out this article for more details: How to Rectify QuickBooks Unable to Backup Company File Error.

If the issue persists, I'd suggest contacting our Technical Support Team. This way, they can pull up your account in a secure environment and further investigate.

Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Let's talk, and then choose a way to connect. Phone support may be limited due to volume.

Stay in touch with me if there’s anything else you need while working on QuickBooks Desktop. Wishing you and your business continued success. Keep safe and healthy.

Backup Not working

I understand the urgency, @MIR5. I’m here to help you so you can open your existing company.

Once you upgrade to a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop, you’ll also need to upgrade your company files to access them. Before that, follow the steps below to prep your file.

  1. Open your original version of QuickBooks, then open the company file you want to upgrade.
  2. Press F2 to open the Product Information window.
  3. In the File Information section, take note of where you save the file on your computer.
  4. Run the Rebuild Tool for your company file.

Once done, you can now update your company file. I’m glad to show you the steps.

  1. Open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click Open or Restore Company.
  3. Select Open a company file, then Next. If you have a backup company file (QBB) instead of a company file (QBW), select Restore a backup copy and then Local backup.
  4. Browse and select your company.
  5. Sign in as an admin user.
  6. Before you upgrade, QuickBooks automatically creates a backup of your existing company file. You can select Change this default location to save the backup in a specific folder.
  7. Press Update Now, then Done after.

Check out this article for complete instructions: Upgrade your company files after you switch to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

I’ve added this reference to learn more about company file compatibility to avoid issues and errors: Company files compatibility with QuickBooks Desktop when upgrading.

@MIR5

Are you still able to open your file on QBD 2019? Which error message did you encounter when try opening it on QBD 2022?
