Bank transaction description not matching memo

Usually, the description in bank transactions matches in some way to the memo in the transaction. But recently, it's completely wrong sometimes, making categorization very difficult. See attached image where the description is "intuit" which is wrong, but it's clearly a deposit from Stripe in the memo (which is correct).

Bank transaction description not matching memo

I know how crucial it is to accurately match bank transactions with the memo for efficient bookkeeping and compliance with accounting standards, Jessie. Let me provide further information below.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) uses data directly from your bank. If you've noticed inconsistencies, you can ensure that bank transactions match your memo by selecting the Copy bank detail to memo option. This helps maintain accuracy in your transaction records.

I'll show you how:

  1. Navigate to Transactions. Then, select a specific transaction.
  2. Click the Gear icon located on the upper right side and select Copy bank detail to memo.

Once you have completed the task, proceed to categorize your transactions in QuickBooks Online. For reference, check out this article: Categorize online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, you can now update and accept any changes you make to bank transactions on your mobile device. Please proceed to this article as your guide: Review and update bank transactions in the QuickBooks Online app.

Lastly, please check out our QuickBooks Live Expert Assisted team if you need further help identifying the report you can generate depending on your business needs. They can also assist you in understanding how each of them works and the data it contains.

I'll be around if you have any inquiries or questions about managing your transactions in QuickBooks. You always visit this thread or tag us along your Reply and I will assist promptly.
