I discovered how to fix the problem although the QuickBooks support person could not. The problem was that my company file ended in ADR instead of QBW so it wasn't identified as a Quickbooks company file. I made a copy of the ADR file, changed it to a QBW, and was able to open the company file and create a backup which I was able to restore. No where in any of the information did I see this solution. I suggested it be added to the knowledge base. Apparently you can't restore a backup created from an ADR file
I'm here to help make sure you can restore your company file, @bjc60640.
The -6000 errors can occur on both local and network setup. The issue happens when hosting is on or the .ND file doesn't work right.
To fix this, let's ensure to update QuickBooks and then download the QuickBooks Tool Hub and run File Doctor.
If issue persists, let's rename the .ND and .TLG files. These are configuration files that allow QuickBooks to access a company file in a network or multi-user environment.
Here's how:
3.Right-click each file and select Rename.
4.Add the word OLD at the end of each file name. Example:company_file.qbw.nd.OLD.
5.Open QuickBooks again and try to sign in to your company file.
If the same thing happens, proceed to the remaining steps in this article: Resolve Error -6000, when opening a company file .
Once everything is settled, you can use your backup company file (.qbb) to restore your company file in QuickBooks Desktop. For your reference, you can review this article: Restore a backup of your company file.
