Why on earth does Control-D delete the entire invoice without prompting for confirmation!!!!?
In a credit card account it deletes the single entry. This makes sense. It does not delete the entire account, just the one line.
I had just finished a 40 line item invoice. I realized I had duplicated on item in the invoice. So I went to the line item and pressed Control-D. Poof! gone!!
I hate this program so much!!!
You can set QB Desktop to warn you when you attempt to delete a transaction for this very reason.
Go to: Edit > Preferences > General > My Preferences > Click the box that says "Warn when deleting a transaction or unused list item".
The point is that the same command does different things in different areas. In a register it deletes a single line. In an invoice it deletes the entire invoice.
That is incredible poor coding.
Your sentiment is very much understandable, TSOSNJ.
You can follow Rainflurry's steps, so this won't happen again. The warning feature is actually enabled by default. I guess yours was accidentally unchecked.
I'd also recommend enabling the option called Bring back all one-time messages. This way, you'll be prompted when there are credits that can be used to pay an invoice, POs that can be added to a bill you're creating, etc.
About the shortcut keys, Ctrl + D (letter D) is for deleting an invoice and Ctrl + Del (Delete key) is for deleting a line. When you're on the Invoice page and you click the Edit menu, you'll see the actions and their corresponding shortcut keys. You can also find the list in this article: Keyboard shortcuts in QuickBooks Desktop.
