Correct a reconciled Split Transaction

Please Help!! I'm trying to edit a split bank transaction that has been reconciled. The total transaction amount is already right, I just need to change the principle and interest amounts. I am afraid to make this adjustment since it has been reconciled. i just need someone to tell me it's okay to adjust those amounts and that it won't create a huge mess. Thank you so much, any help at all will be greatly appreciated!!

Correct a reconciled Split Transaction

You've got me to help you with this, SMT22.

When transactions are reconciled, it's advisable not to undo them to avoid balance discrepancy. Hence, messing up your account.

Since you want to modify transactions, you'll have to undo the reconciled item manually. Before doing so, I'd recommend reaching out to your accountant so you'll be guided further.

Here's how to undo transactions:

  1. From the Accounting menu, select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account and select View register
  3. Locate and select the transactions you want to unreconciled.
  4. Repeatedly click the box with the letter until it's blank.
  5. Click Save.

Please check Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online. It will give you more info on what to do if you encountered issues with your reconciliation.

Afterward, you're good to reconcile the account again.

The Community team is always up to help you with reconciliation. Keep safe!
