I would like this info s a workaround untii QB is fixed. Where can I find it?
I just spent 30 minutes on Chat and was told that Quickbooks has no intentions on updating Desktop version 2019. They only support newer versions and I was instructed to contact sales.
Thanks for joining the Community and getting involved with this thread, DockadaBay.
What you were advised by our Customer Care team is correct, QuickBooks 2019 was discontinued last year. While you can upgrade to a newer version by getting in touch with our Sales team, you can also upgrade from within your product.
Here's how:
QuickBooks will download, install, and activate your new version and upgrade company files as necessary.
I've also included a detailed resource about upgrading which may come in handy moving forward: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, or Enterprise
I'll be here to help if there's any questions. Have a wonderful Thursday!
Hello Quickbooks,
let’s be clear about one thing. It is obvious that your company is refusing to do something simple that would make your existing customers whole as a way of switching everyone onto far more expensive subscription services.
our existing software version was absolutely fine and working great until this software update, disabled it. This is not some sort of entertainment software like a video game that is optional or where there are no consequences to its disablement. You guys have the ability to fix it, and it is critical for businesses to be able to function. We can’t simply go an upgrade without significant cost and time.
this is an open message to your company that you will be held legally responsible for all of our costs and financial damages, which are ongoing.
A far simpler thing for you to do would be instead to simply issue free licenses for a newer, working, version of the software, rather than doing what you were doing, or even taking time to fix the 2019 software.
You have this option. Dont do it and you’ll be hearing from many of us and your legal costs alone will far surpass the cost (free) of doing the right thing. Your choice.
so is this the official intuit position? That they will not have a patch for 2019?
if so, can you also advise whether into it will allow 2019 users to upgrade to a version of QuickBooks that does not require a yearly subscription?
What is the last version of QuickBooks that did not require a yearly subscription? Well into it. Allow 2019 users to upgrade to that version?
Can you provide the link where to download 2021 or the latest version that did not require a subscription and with which we can do the procedure you are referring to?
QBDT 2021, they are no longer making it available. Unfortunately
I still see the previous/older version of 2021 on the downloads page, will this be updated soon?
Hello there, @sha66y. Let me share additional information about the software availability of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac.
Only the QBDT for Mac 2020 software was discontinued on May 31, 2023. For the QBDT for the Mac 2021 version, you're correct that it is still available on the downloads page because it's still an available and supported product. This also means you will continue receiving critical security updates protecting your data.
To learn more about our service discontinuation policy, kindly refer to this article: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy. This includes frequently asked questions about this policy.
Also, if you decide to switch from QBDT Mac to QBDT Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise, you can see this link to see which QuickBooks Desktop version is right for you.
Please don't hesitate to add details below if there is anything else I can do for you. I'll be there to help. Stay safe, and enjoy your day.
Hi Kevin,
Your team seems very keen to upsell me on a new version, but I am simply asking that the latest version of QBDT Mac 2021 (still supported) be made available on your downloads page.
Please see the reply from @DTMacTeam_Ben yesterday informing me you would update the downloads page so I can archive the latest/patched version of QB 2021. I need to make sure I have a reliable backup of your software as part of corporate compliance I'm beholden to.
We released the update for 2022 last night. All updates for Sonoma have now been released: 2024, 2023, 2022 and 2021. The 2020 and 2019 versions are no longer supported - this is the same Intuit policy on QuickBooks Mac and Windows.
We have spoken with Apple and identified the bugs in Sonoma causing these issues. Apple may address the issues in a future version - I can't speak for Apple.
I've been trying to find a workaround for 2020 and 2019 but haven't been able to find a solution.
My recommendations if you want to run Sonoma:
If you are on 2021 or above apply the updates.
If you are on 2020 or below you can update to a newer version. Yes, its a subscription, yes it costs money. I don't have any say in that.
You can hang on and hope Apple releases fixes for these bugs. No guarantees there and no idea of the timeline.
You can install Parallels and make a virtual machine running Ventura macOS. You can run QuickBooks Mac 2020 or earlier version there. IMO this is preferable to running Windows under Parallels as you'd still have to buy Windows (macOS is free) and you'd have to buy QuickBooks Windows which is the same price and subscription as QuickBooks Mac.
You can move to a competitor.
I think there's value in being on the newer releases as we are constantly fixing things and adding functionality. The older software versions don't change - they are actually "read only" and QuickBooks never writes to them - but the macOS, external apps like Mail and Outlook, and Intuit servers all change. Threats and security requirements change. But only you can decide if its worth the cost.
Correction: I've been trying to find a work around for 2019. 2020 may respond well to the earlier work around - if not its in the same boat as 2019 with no known workaround.
Hi @sha66y - The correct version is available on the download page. I'm still working to get the version number displayed on that page updated, but if you complete the download and open the application, you can verify that it is the most recent version of QBDT Mac 2021 by going to the QuickBooks menu > About QuickBooks 2021 and you'll see R13.3 displayed there.
For completeness: one other option is to revert your Mac to Ventura. This is difficult as it requires wiping your hard drive. The only way you can do it is if you have a full backup of your machine prior to installing Sonoma (something Apple and everyone recommends but.... how many people actually do it?)
Even if you go this route how do you know with certainty the backup will restore correctly ahead of time? If it were me I'd choose the Parallels Ventura route ahead of this.
Another option is to use a second mac running Ventura. I wouldn't do that either - Parallels has gotten pretty good.
Does anyone out there know where I can buy a license for QB2021?
I know intuit is not interested in selling it.
OK, thanks I downloaded it. I need to archive it and am taking your word for it (and documenting it here) that this is the updated version. Thank you for making that available and good luck getting the version number displaying correctly.
So bloody tire of Intuit. The Mac version is treated as a step child. Simply awful!
Did you price Oracle? Working to find something. I am on a Studio also.
Not saying QB is ransomware, but what exactly is the difference between QB and ransomware?
Gnucash is free, open-source, will never lock your data in a proprietary app you can’t open, compatible with Sonoma, unlimited companies, local data, no subscription. Pretty easy to transition with general journal entry using your last trial balance report. Zero downside to try it out.
My small business can’t survive without my Quickbooks! Please get me up and running ASAP!

So as best I can tell even if I wanted to pay the ransomware prices I can't without talking to the sales team?
I don't see the actual Mac desktop software anywhere on the site, just tries to push me toward online.
And the moderators here keep saying go into the software and upgrade within....... 1) we're all locked out of the software. 2) even when you can get into the software there is no such button under "help", it's under file and it brings you to the website to switch to web.
So it's a cash grab but they won't even take our cash.....
Intuit just do the right thing and push an upgrade out to 2019
Which year version do you have?
You have to call their Sales team or through selected partners to purchase QB Desktop 2024.
You can use the installer file of QB Desktop 2023 or 2024 without a license on Sonoma to open your file and use it to run up to 15 times opening. But you need a workaround to reset the counter back to 15 times again.

just to here fishing for a fix...... can anyone update me as to the sonoma crash issue?
