When using Quickbooks Desktop we added job numbers to the beginning of the display name for each customer.  The online version doesn't allow us to add anything but the name we enter to the display name.  We need to be able to look up our customer by job number and they need to show by job number (so they are in numerical order on the job list.  How can this be done.

Hello there, @Allied3.

I'm here to share information about adding customer details in your QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Adding job numbers to the beginning of your customers' display name is currently unavailable in QBO. However, you can use the Title field before the First name in the customer's information to enter their job numbers as a workaround.

Here's how to do it:

  1. In QBO, go to the Get paid & pay or Sales menu at the left pane.
  2. Proceed to the Customers tab.
  3. Click the customer's name, then tick Edit at the top right.
  4. In the Name and contact section, enter the job number in the Title field.
  5. Enter the other necessary information in the desired fields if needed.
  6. Hit Save to complete.

I can see how having the option to enter job numbers at the beginning of your customers' display name would be helpful for you and your business. I highly suggest sending feedback directly to our product developers. They're always looking for ideas to consider on how to improve QuickBooks.

Here's how to submit feedback:

  1. In QBO, go to the Gear icon at the top right, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then select Next to submit feedback.

To know more about managing customers in QBO, consider checking out this article: Add and manage customers in QuickBooks Online.

Welcome to the Community, @Janely.

I'll help you see a list of recently added customers in QuickBooks Online.

You can run and customize reports in QuickBooks Online to generate the necessary information. The Customer Contact List is the best report to generate. Then, filter it by date the customers were added.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports and search for the Customer Contact List report.
  2. Click Customize.
  3. Go to the Filter section and select Custom in the Created Date dropdown.
  4. Set the date to the last three months.
  5. Click Run Report.

For future reference, here is an article you can read to help you handle customers and suppliers with open balances in QuickBooks Online: Manage outstanding balances for customers and suppliers in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you need further assistance in running customer list in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.
