Does anyone know why QB would take away the ability to scan directly from the printer to QB? It was so convenient, now it's a total pain. Does anyone have a way to continue scanning direct?

Good morning, @MichelleNV.

I'm glad you reached out to the Community.  The ability to scan from a printer is still available within QuickBooks Enterprise. You'll want to ensure you have a TWAIN compliant scanner to utilize this function.  Are you receiving an error when attempting to scan your documents?

I'm going to attach a helpful article on this: QuickBooks Scan Manager: Scan and attach documents to transactions.

If you have a specific issue about why this scanning is no longer working, please reply so we can look at this in more depth.  I look forward to hearing from you!

Intuit hasn't admitted it, but I think it's because of the conversion to 64-bit. Several similar features were removed from QuickBooks 2022 and Enterprise 22.0, all of which were sort of external add-ons and not really part of the QuickBooks application itself.

I suspect Intuit didn't feel the need to convert these applications or re-write them as 64-bit apps. Anyway, they chose not to include them and announced it rather cheerily, as if it's a perfectly normal thing to do.

Without the app, there's no way scan documents like you did before.

RE:  The ability to scan from a printer is still available within QuickBooks Enterprise.

I'm going to attach a helpful article on this: QuickBooks Scan Manager: Scan and attach documents to transactions.

Intuit says - here on this site - that the Scan Manager isn't included in Enterprise 22.0:

------------------------------

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/cash-flow/features-discontinued-quick...

"With the launch of QuickBooks Desktop 2022 and Enterprise 22.0, you’ll notice that Loan Manager, Scan Manager, Cash Flow Projector are no longer available."

"Scan Manager was replaced with Attach Documents. You can still scan documents using your mobile device and then import the documents into QuickBooks."

------------------------------

And yet you claim it's still available and send a link on how to use it. Why is that?

Thanks for chiming in, @BigRedConsulting.

You're right on this; if @MichelleNV has upgraded to Enterprise 22.0, the scan manager is no longer available.  I wasn't clear on whether or not her product had been updated and wanted to make sure I provided resources in case it wasn't.

if you've updated your QB Enterprise, please refer to this article on how you can attach documents: Attach documents to transactions in QuickBooks Desktop using mobile.

I'm here for other questions you have on this! Take care.

I just upgraded to QUickbooks Pro Plus 2022 and the scan feature is not there anymore. Will Quickbooks bring this feature back?

It's perfectly clear. If you can't see that, then there is something wrong.

Apparently I'm also no longer able to view the previous documents I've scanned using my TWAIN enabled scanner vs my mobile phone. So does this mean that I'm forced to re-scan ALL of the documents again using my mobile phone?? Please tell me this isn't the case!

Apparently, I am no longer able to VIEW allllllll the documents that I've previously scanned using my TWAIN enabled scanner either. Is there a way to take them from a file on my computer to a file somewhere in QB so I don't lose them all?

This isn't the kind of impression we'd like you to experience, @liann62. I'd like to share info about scanning documents in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

The option to scan documents using a TWAIN scanner depends on the version you're using. The Scan Manager was already discontinued in QuickBooks Desktop 2022. However, you can still use it in previous and currently supported versions of the product.

As a workaround, you scan documents using your mobile device and then import the records into QuickBooks. For additional reference, you can check this article: Attach documents to transactions in QBDT.

In addition, Scan Manager always saves your documents in the same folder as your company file (.QBW). You can search for this file on your computer to view your scanned documents.

For more info about the discontinued features in QuickBooks Desktop 2022 and Enterprise 22, please see this article: Learn what features didn’t make it into QuickBooks 2022 and Enterprise 22.0.

Should you have further questions about scanning documents and receipts in QuickBooks, just send them to the thread. We'll be here to help. Have a good one.
