Error in Address lines (Quickbooks Desktop)

  • We receive a regular error that reads as this: “There was an error when composing an address in "".  QuickBooks error message: There is not enough address lines to compose the address. Please rearrange the individual fields, so that they can fit in the 5-lines block.”, Our doubt is:
  • How many characters can I use per line in the Address box? How many per the other lines (City, State, Zipcode, Country, Note)
  • Why if I have used only 2 or 3 lines in the address box, sometimes it shows me the same error as above? Does it count as address lines the fields for city, state, Zipcode, country?
  • Why after I enter the zip code info in the correspondent line and close the window, QB automatically moves the zipcode info into the City Line? And when I try to fix it, it doesn´t change it and remains in the city line
  • Has any effect if I use commas or semi-colons when entering an address? Does it make it count as a break in the address line and therefore QB thinks I´m over-exceeding fields?

Error in Address lines (Quickbooks Desktop)

Hi Briant Neira,

The address fields in QuickBooks strictly limits 5 lines, and this depends on how long the address text you enter in each field.

To give more details, the Address field can hold up 5 lines with 41 characters and spaces in each line. However, only the first 4 lines will be used when you fill in the other fields which have the following capacity:

  • City: 31
  • State/Province:  21
  • Zip/Postal Code: 13
  • Country/Region: 31
  • Notes: 41 (This field will be removed if you’ve already used five lines)

Though the City field down to the Notes field can accommodate more than 20 characters and spaces, you’re unable to maximize them. If you do, QuickBooks will cut the last line in the Address field to give space to the texts entered in the remaining fields. So, instead of entering United States of America in the Country/Region field, you can use the USA abbreviation to save space. You can also abbreviate the state, so the City, State, Zip Code, and Country can be grouped in one line.

Obviously, the third and the fourth scenario in your question is within the limit. What we'll do is repair your QuickBooks to fix any damaged program components that are causing the error.

And for the fifth question, yes, the commas or semi-colons will not affect the fields, except for Address and Notes.
