excluding downloaded transaction in qb DESKTOP 2020

Hello,

I've seen explanations for solving my problem for online versions but I can't seem to find a solution for the desktop version. I'm trying to remove a very old (2015!) transaction in my download file. I'm unable to match it to the corresponding transaction in my register even though the name and amounts match. I haven't had any issues until now with this but I need to clear my downloaded transactions in order to fix a bank feed issue. Quickbooks support won't help me- they say I have to buy the online version for help.

It seems that you're using Classic Mode, @ckrash. That's why you don't see the Transaction List button.

I'll walk you through the steps to change your bank feeds mode. Thus, you can remove the 2015 transactions from your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

QBDT offers three banking options: Advanced, Express, and Classic. The Transaction List tab is available in the Express Mode. To change the setup, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Banking menu and select Bank Feeds
  2. Click the Change Bank Feeds Mode tab.
  3. Choose Express Mode and click OK

For more information, see this link: Switch between banking modes.

After that, follow the instructions outlined by KurtKyle_M above to remove the old transactions. For further visual references, see the screenshots below:

Furthermore, see the following articles for information on how to bulk delete transactions and reconcile bank accounts in QuickBooks:

Drop me a line if you need help managing your bank transactions. I'm happy to assist again. Take care!

Hello there, @ckrash. Let's work this out so you can get rid of the old transaction in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company file.

To remove the transaction, you'll want to go to Transaction List and then tick the box for the bank transaction that you'd like to exclude or get rid. I'll be glad to input the steps below so you can proceed. Here's how:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Desktop company.
  2. Go to Banking, and then select Bank Feeds.
  3. Select the Bank Feeds Center, and then choose the Bank account.
  4. Click the Transaction List to see the transactions.
  5. Tick the box beside the transaction that you want to get rid.
  6. In the Batch Actions button, select Ignore.

See this page for more information: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

A reminder, you'll have to switch to Advanced Banking mode to accomplish this. See this article for further guidelines about switching banking modes in QBDT: Switch between banking modes.

Hi KurtKyle,

Thanks for responding to my inquiry. I'm still a bit confused, however. When I am in the Bank Feeds Center there is no list of transactions (this transaction is also very old, as I stated earlier). So- there's no option to tick on a box next to it. I've attached a pic so you can see what I'm seeing. Are there any other options to take care of this?

Thank you for getting back to us and sharing a screenshot on your Bank Feeds center, @ckrash.

Based on the screenshot you've shared, you can view each of the messages from the Items Received section and look for the old transactions. Then, click the Delete button to remove them from your downloaded bank transactions.

You may need help managing your bank transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. This article will help you handle them: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Feel free to post below if you have additional questions about this. I'll be around to provide further assistance.

Hi Mark_R

Thank you. The messages in the Items Received section do not contain any transactions- they are just communications about things like my user name. The only place where this transaction is visible is in my downloaded transactions  window after I press View in the Bank Feeds window. It's not possible to use the delete button in that window to delete the transaction. I'm still stuck.

Sure, stoomari. I'll walk you through the steps to download bank transactions in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). I'll provide the details below.

Before you download bank transactions in your QBDT account, ensure that you have already set up accounts for your Bank Feeds.

After setting up your accounts for bank feeds, you can start downloading your transactions from your banks.

Please note and keep in mind these things:

  • Back up your QuickBooks company file before you start downloading.
  • You can't download transactions into the same QuickBooks Desktop company file more than once. However, you can contact your bank to see if they can reopen the transactions so that QuickBooks can download them again.
  • Web connect only works with .qbo files. Other types like QFX and QIF Quicken files won't work. There are a few third-party apps that can handle QIF available on the Intuit Marketplace.
  • QuickBooks initially downloads the maximum transactions your bank allows, providing up to a year of historical data. However, most banks only support downloading 90 days of transactions.
  • Some banks let you set a date range for downloads. This may be 30, 60, 90 days, or more depending on the financial institution.

There are two ways to download transactions into QBDT:

First, using the Direct Connect feature,

Here's how:

  1. Go to Banking, then select Bank Feeds and Bank Feeds Center.
  2. Choose the account you want to connect from the Bank Accounts list.
  3. Click Download Transaction.
  4. Click Synchronize. (If you want to download transactions for a specific account, select Sync this account, and if you want to download transactions for all your accounts at the same bank, select Sync all for this Bank.)
  5. Enter your PIN or password in the Access to window to connect to your bank.
  6. Click OK.

Alternatively, if your bank does not support Direct Connect, you can download transactions using the Web Connect feature. Download a file (.QBO) with your company's transactions from your bank or credit card. Then import that file into QuickBooks to add those transactions to your accounts.

Here are the steps to import/download transactions via Web Connect:

If you're using QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Navigate to the Banking menu.
  2. Select Bank Feeds then select Banking Center.
  3. Find your bank and click Download Transactions. This opens a browser window to your bank's website.
  4. Sign in to your bank's website to download the Web Connect file.

If you're outside QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Open a web browser and go to your bank’s website.
  2. Sign into your bank account.
  3. Download your transactions as a QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) file. (Note: Each bank has a different method for downloading QuickBooks Web Connect files. If you're unsure how to do it, visit your bank's website and look for their instructions. If you can't find any, reach out to your bank for help. )
  4. Once you have the Web Connect file, follow the steps to import it into QuickBooks Desktop.

After downloading your transactions, refer to this article for guidance on how to match those transactions to your bank feeds transactions: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

You can always reach out if you have further questions about working with your bank transactions and financial data in QuickBooks. We're here to help.
