Can someone please tell me how to keep folders from popping up on my desktop every time I open a Quickbooks company file? Thank you.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Depending on various available settings, like perhaps search, and the features you use, QuickBooks will create folders and put files in them, within the same folder where the company mail file is saved.
If you save the file on your desktop (which is a folder), then it'll create the files there.
So, to avoid this, put your company file somewhere else and open it from there. A folder within your Documents folder usually works well.
Thanks for reaching out to the Community space, @Oozley. I'd be happy to answer your query about the folders that appear when opening a company file in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
When you set the Search preference to update automatically, Quickbooks auto-creates Filename>.qbw.SearchIndex. The contents of these folders are what QuickBooks uses to run a quick index search when you press F3 in a company file. To turn this off, you can Uncheck Update Automatic.
Here's how:
Once it's off, please know that it might take longer when you do searches in your company. But if the search performance affects your work, you can re-enable it anytime.

Thank you for your feedback. I did save in my documents but in the One Drive folder and still experienced folders on desktop. However, when I saved directly to my documents and bypassed the One Drive folder, it worked well. Don't know why it made the difference by not saving in One Drive.
Thank you all for the feedback. I saved the company file in my One Drive documents folders and still experienced folders appearing on desktop. However, when I bypassed One Drive and directly saved in my documents, folders no longer appeared on desktop. Don't know what bypassing One Drive did to help, but it sure did.
