I want to edit a budget and the gear icon is missing on the desktop premier 2021. All I can find is how to fix the online version.

I ended up deleting the budget and creating a new one.  That solved that issue but after creating the new budget I noticed another account that is not populating in the budget even though it is in the Chart of Accounts.

I rebuilt the data and opened the budget again and the accounts were there.  Issue resolved.  A big thank you to all that tried to help me.  You're GREAT!

Hi there, stonebridgecoop.

Let me make it to you by ensuring you'll be able to edit a budget in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

The Gear icon is only available in QuickBooks Online (QBO). In QBDT, you can edit a budget by going to the Company at the top menu bar.

Here's how:

  1. Click Company at the top menu bar.
  2. From the drop-down list, click Planning & Budgeting.
  3. Choose Set Up Budgets.

4. This will show the FY 22 for the new budget.

I'm adding these articles that will guide you in creating a budget and forecast in QuickBooks:

Keep in touch if you have further questions about editing the budget in QuickBooks. I'm always here to help. Have a wonderful day!

The instructions you gave me were for adding a budget.  I already have the budget created and need to edit it.

Glad to have you back. I'll sort this out so you can edit your budget in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @stonebridgecoop.

Created budget in QBDT will reflect on the Budget dropdown menu. Pick the designated budget from the Set Up Budgets page to make some edits. I'm adding these steps as your reference:

  1. Open your QBDT file.
  2. Go to the Company menu.
  3. Click on Planning & Budgeting, then Set up Budgets.
  4. Select the budget you want to modify from the Budget dropdown menu.
  5. Do the necessary modification, then click on Save or OK.

This material will also give you hints while planning and making smart decisions through budgets and forecasts in our system: Create a budget or forecast in QuickBooks Desktop.

You may always run your reports to review your financials in QuickBooks.

Please let me know if you have other questions while revising your budgets in our system by leaving a comment below. I'm more than happy to help you again. Keep safe!

I think we are having a miscommunication.  I followed your instructions to the end where I select the budget from the drop down list I want to edit.  My question after that is 'how' to make the change.  For example: I want to insert an account between 10300 Savings and 10400 Petty Cash.

I appreciate you for getting back to us, stonebridgecoop.

As of now, you can insert an account by manually adding it through the Chart of Accounts page. Then, you'll have to set up a different budget so the new account will sync.

Here's how to add an account:

  1. From the Company menu, select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click the Account drop-down.
  3. Hit New.
  4. Select Bank. Click Continue.
  5. Give it a name.
  6. Click Save & Close.

I'd also suggest sending feedback to our developer's team. Your valuable feedback goes to our Product Development team to help improve your experience in QuickBooks Desktop.

  1. From the Help menu, select Send Feedback Online.
  2. Choose Product Suggestion.
  3. Enter your feedback.
  4. Click Send Feedback.

Also, to review your budgets, you can do so by clicking the Reports menu. Then, select  Budgets and Forecasts. You can also memorize this report if you want the same settings as the customized report.

You can always post whenever you have concerns about managing your QuickBooks Desktop file.
