Gmail Webmail authorization error

We can fix it by using a different email provider, rufunky.

I have found out that we have an ongoing issue about Gmail. Rest assured, our engineers are working to have this error a permanent fixed.

In the meantime, you can try a different webmail address either from Google or another provider.

I'd also recommend contacting our Phone Support team so you'll be added to the affected user's list. Let me guide you how:

  1. From the Help menu, select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Enter I can no longer send email using Gmail.
  4. Hit Continue.
  5. Select how you'll want to contact us either by selecting Start messaging or Get a callback.

We appreciate you for waiting while we're working to resolve this issue.

Gmail Webmail authorization error

Has this issue been resolved yet? I am getting the same error when trying to set up my gmail with the recommended security enabled. If I set up without the security enabled, I get a different error saying "We were unable to connect to the email server for your email provider." Please help!

Gmail Webmail authorization error

Thanks for joining us here, @christineg.

I've reviewed our system about the ongoing investigation (INV-38793) and found out it's still in progress. Our product engineers are working hard to resolve this.

As a workaround, you can follow the steps below.

First, you'll have to update your QuickBooks to the latest version. I'll guide you how.

  1. Go to the Update to the Latest Release page.
  2. Make sure your product is selected. If not, go to the Change link and select your QuickBooks product.
  3. Select the Update button to download the update file.
  4. Select Setup Automatic Updates to learn how to set QuickBooks to automatically download and install the latest updates.

Then, check your app preferences. There might be something's blocking the connection to your Google account.

Here's how:

  1. Follow the steps to enable access for less secure apps.
  2. You can also set access preferences for specific apps, like QuickBooks.
  3. Go back into QuickBooks and email yourself a test transaction.

If you still can't send emails, you can turn off the 2-Step Verification feature for your Gmail account.

Lastly, let's check your antivirus settings as it can also block the connection.

You'll need to search your antivirus provider's website for steps to allow port exceptions. Here are steps for Norton and McAfee.

  • Make Port 465 open for Yahoo! Mail.
  • Make Port 587 open for Gmail and all other email services.

If you use McAfee, open your antivirus program and check your Excluded Processes list. Add these names to the list so they can run freely:

  • QBW32.exe - C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]\QBW32.exe
  • QBDBMGRN.exe - C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]\QBDBMgrN.exe
  • QBDBMGR.exe - C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]\QBDBMgr.exe

You'll have to restart your computer to complete the repair. Then, open QuickBooks and email yourself a test transaction.

For further guidance in fixing this error, you can check out this article:  Error: Could not connect to the email server.

If you have other concerns in the future, such as setting up advanced reports, online banking, manage reconciliation, transactions, import and export data lists, etc. feel free to visit our Help article page.

Feel free to tag me if you have additional questions regarding this, christineg. I'm always here to help. Have a great day!
