Google NEST WiFi = Slowed down initial logon to QB Desktop (a LOT)

We switched out network from some wires and some to a WiFi Access point to Google Nest devices

(The purpose was to speed up our internet and it did a lot)

BUT Every since the switch - the time it takes to logon to QB Desktop and be able to use it has slowed down a LOT.

It takes at least 60 Seconds from filling in password to being able to use it. The avg is more like a minute and a hale (90 Seconds)

It also takes  longer to quit out of QB Desktop.

Has anyone else noticed this?

And more important does anyone know how to fix it?

Google NEST WiFi = Slowed down initial logon to QB Desktop (a LOT)

It's great to hear that switching to Google Nest devices improved your internet speed, @W8WCA. However, it seems that you're experiencing slower login times and performance issues with QuickBooks Desktop since the switch. Don't worry, I can share some troubleshooting steps that can help.

Before doing so, please note that QuickBooks Desktop is meant to be used on local networks where computers are connected with cables. While you can use a wireless connection, it may cause occasional errors if the connection fails for a few seconds, which could disconnect your QuickBooks Desktop session. Similarly, if there are connection issues in long-distance networking environments, like a modem interruption, it can lead to poor performance problems with the software.

That said, ensure that your Google Nest devices are providing a stable and strong Wi-Fi signal to your computer. You can try moving closer to the access point or plugging off and on the router to see if it improves the connection. To learn more about the compatibility of QuickBooks with different network types, check out this link: Recommended Networks for QuickBooks.

Sometimes, a simple restart can also resolve temporary software glitches or conflicts that may be affecting the software's performance. If the issue remains, we can download the QuickBooks Tool Hub, and then use the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool to get this resolved. Here’s how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.6.0.3) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
  6. In the tool hub, select Installation Issues.
  7. Select QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool. It can take up to 20 minutes.
  8. Restart your computer when finished.

If this doesn't work, refer to this guide on how to fix QBDT install errors and scroll down to step 3.

Furthermore, It's important to meet the minimum system requirements for QuickBooks because it loads a lot of data, especially as the company file gets older. Additionally, background processes on your PC can also impact QuickBooks' performance. These processes can include regular software updates, antivirus monitoring, or any programs that use up your PC's memory. You can find the specific system requirements for QuickBooks Desktop versions here: 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

If any unnecessary programs or processes are running in the background that might be consuming system resources, closing them can free up resources for QuickBooks Desktop. However, these are Windows processes, so please consult an IT professional if you're not comfortable doing this on your own.

For management practices, I recommend backing up your company files so you can restore them anytime in case of accidental data loss.

Google NEST WiFi = Slowed down initial logon to QB Desktop (a LOT)

Thank you for the reply. I will review some of it tomorrow.
FYI our computers are all at minimum hex core intel i7 or better with at least 32G RAM

out google nest have 500 Meg up and down internet speeds solid.  All computers have very strong signals.
we had some on a WiFi that was just ok internet speeds. Sometimes as slow as 30 meg down and 8 or 9 up. Yet QB Desktop worked fine.

infeel there is something going on with the google nest and am not sure yet

to add to this: I do not see ANY mention in the link you gave that says wired network.

"Before doing so, please note that QuickBooks Desktop is meant to be used on local networks where computers are connected with cables. " & "Networks that have at least 40 Mbps transfer speed "

We have over 500 M both ways.

I am thinking there must be something about how google nest works that has a negative impact on our LAN with QB.

Oops! I see it does in fact say connected with cables!

I will have to take a look at re doing our whole LAN.
