Help matching unrecognized bank feed transactions?

I entered some credit card transactions manually. Then I used the bank feed to download all credit card transactions because many were not entered.

I have one transaction which I KNOW I entered manually. It came in from the bank credit card feed as unrecognized, but when I try to match it with the manually entered transaction, nothing is coming up in the match to the existing transactions window.

What do I do? Is there a way to find the matching transaction in the system or should I ignore it?

Help matching unrecognized bank feed transactions?

Let's review your transactions to find the root cause of this, raes88.

These are the possible reason why you're unable to  find a match to your downloaded transactions:

  • They're different
  • They're reconciled
  • They're already downloaded
  • The transactions are brand new

To prevent this from happening, you can:

  • Verify that the transactions have not been reconciled.
  • Check if the transactions were entered using the same bank account.
  • Make sure the transaction has not been previously matched to another bank downloaded transaction.

For more details in handling your bank transactions in QuickBooks, I suggest checking this article: Add and match Bank Feed Transactions.

Additionally, I've included an article that'll help you match your QuickBooks account and your real-life bank statements: Reconcile Workflow.

Help matching unrecognized bank feed transactions?

1. I don't know what reconciliation is, so it hasn't been done before.

2. This is the first month we're using quickbooks so it hasn't been downloaded or matched before

3. Brand new - I don't understand this, as I said 1) I entered the credit card transaction manually 2) a few days later I ran the bank feed and pulled down all credit card transactions for the month 3) I saw the duplicate transaction and I am trying to match it to the one I manually entered, but nothing is coming up on the mapping window.

4. I guess this means they're different? But I am 100% certain these are for the same item!

What do I do? Do I just click ignore on the bank feed transaction? Do I delete my original, manually entered transaction? Something else?

Help matching unrecognized bank feed transactions?

Your confusion ends here, @raes88.

Allow me to make some clarification on matching transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. Let's start by answering your questions one at a time.

The reconciliation is comparing two related accounts to make sure everything is accurate and matches. With that being said, you'll need to reconcile your bank and credit card accounts in QuickBooks frequently to ensure they match your real-life bank accounts.

Also, when matching your manually created transactions in QuickBooks to your bank feeds, you'll want to make sure that the date, amount, and payee of the transactions are the same. And ensure the bank account showing is correct. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Bank Feeds Center.
  2. Open the Match Transactions window and from the Financial Institution dropdown, make sure the correct bank account is showing.
  3. Click View, then download and view the electronic statement.
  4. In the Match Transactions window, make sure the Show Register checkbox is selected.
  5. Select the transaction in the statement that you need to match to a transaction in the register.
  6. Choose the transaction in the register to match to. Make sure the amounts match.
  7. Click Match.

I'm adding this article for more guidance: Manually match transactions.

Once you're done matching your transactions, you can now process on reconciling your bank account. This way, we can review your accounts in QuickBooks to make sure they match your real-life bank and credit card statements. Welcome, and thank you for choosing QuickBooks, Dancram!

When you say came back unrecognized, do you mean they were already added to your register before and then they go back to the Bank Feeds Center like freshly downloaded or uploaded transactions? If this is the case, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support to check why they came back being unrecognized. That way, this won't happen again.

On the other hand, if you've just loaded your transactions, you can categorize and add them to your register. It's normal if there are no matching transactions if you haven't created one in QuickBooks. Another reason is you can't find a match if the transactions entered in QuickBooks were already reconciled.

I can also see that my colleagues have shared some useful articles about bank feeds. Feel free to check them out.

Help matching unrecognized bank feed transactions?

Hi, I'm having a similar issue and just need some clarification. I just set up my bank feed with my 2020 QB desktop and I'm reviewing transactions. I've already entered and reconciled Decembers bank statements, but want to start using the bank feed for January on. When I tried to match December transactions in QB nothing shows up, from what you've said, that's because it's all been reconciled. Do I just "ignore" these transactions? I feel like that would be easiest, but I'm still learning how to use the bank feed and don't want to mess it up. And I don't want to go back into last year's transactions and un-reconcile accounts.

Thanks!

It's good to see you here in the community, @Clara55. I'm here to share some insights about bank transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

You can erase or ignore some unused transactions to start over with the reconciliation in a few different ways. Just make sure that this won't affect your books.

Please note that once the transaction is already ignored, you can't pull it back again.

Alternatively, you can also remove duplicate transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. Check out this article for your reference.

I'm glad I was able to shed some light on the subject. I wish you a pleasant rest of your day.
