Thanks for posting in the Community, @ptarcher.

The most common reason for rejection is that the Government Gateway credentials are incorrect. Since your credentials are right, try to submit the file again to double-check. This can be done by going through the Taxes menu at the left pane to get to the Payroll Tax page.

If the same thing happens, I highly suggest contacting our Phone Support team so they can check your account using their screen-sharing (remote access) tool. They're also able to perform other troubleshooting steps to fix this for you.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. In QuickBooks Online (QBO), click the Help (question mark) icon at the top right.
  2. Select Contact Us at the bottom to connect with our live support.

Just in case, I'll add these articles for future reference:

I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you, so please let me know how it goes or if you have any other concerns. I'm more than willing to assist. Enjoy the rest of the day!

Thanks for your prompt response, @ptarcher.

HMRC provides the Gateway ID and Gateway password. If you change it recently, make sure that the password is no more than 12 characters in length.

Also, ensure that you already tested your credentials through this link: http://www.gateway.gov.uk/ before submitting taxes through QuickBooks. If you weren't able to use that link to activate it within 28 days, your credentials won't be valid, and you will need to get new credentials.

I'll be adding this article as your reference on how to enter HMRC credentials in QuickBooks: Turn on RTI reporting to HMRC in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll.

Also, I'd suggest contacting our Payroll Support team if you need a live assistant in submitting taxes. There they have tools to check your account in a secured environment and review the credentials that you've entered.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. In QuickBooks Online (QBO), click the Help (question mark) icon at the top right.

Feel free to place a comment here if you have more questions in mind. I'll reply as fast as I can. Have a good one!
