Hello satC!

Our engineers regularly update the QuickBooks Desktop for a better experience and fix issues. I'm here to help you with this update message.

There are updates that are mandatory to give you the latest features and fixes. You encountered this prompt to remind you that our team launches a new update you need to install.

Simply click the Install Now, then follow the on-screen steps. You can also check this link to know how to manually update your QuickBooks Desktop or set an automatic update: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Also, here's the link to know what’s new and improved in the latest update: Release notes for QuickBooks Desktop 2020.

Hi Alex,

Thank You for your swift response.

Due to security , my IT team is blocked all the ports we are unable to downloads latest updates.

Suppose after two attempts also if we not downloads latest updates , is there any issue ?

Are we able to access our company files?

Thanks,

Sateesh

Hello there, satC.

Intuit regularly launches new updates and releases to improve program functionality. These updates are maintenance or patch product releases that improve functionality and resolve several problems. Every time an update is available, QuickBooks Desktop asks you to update it to its latest release the moment you open it.

You'll want to update your newly installed QuickBooks Desktop version to have the recent maintenance release, new features, or information that is relevant to your company file. Doing so will not affect your computer's performance.

To give you more insight and a visual guide on how to update QuickBooks Desktop, please check out this article: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Also, the links will guide you on how to troubleshoot QuickBooks update errors: Fix QuickBooks Desktop Update Errors

Keep me posted if you have other follow-up questions about updating QBDT, you’re always welcome to share them with me. I’m always around ready to help and back you up. Keep safe, and have a good one.

Good morning, @satC

Thanks for following up with us.

With recent updated versions of QuickBooks Desktop, it's now required to stay updated to the latest release. As mentioned by my colleague's above, these patch updates are there to improve functionality and resolve several problems. The updates will not affect your computer in any way. Please know that if you run out of install attempts, you will be locked out of the software.

That said, I encourage you to get with your IT professional so they can unblock the ports so the update can be installed. If needed, you can always get with our Technical Support Team. This way, an agent can screenshare with you and install the update for you securely.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'm always around to lend a hand. Take care!

Tori - this is about the most tone deaf set of response I've ever seen. They do not want to update. Tell them how to avoid a forced update. Nothing gives Intuit the right to block access based on your desire to force your clients to update.

Its like you can't hear people. They do not want to update. How do they stop the update. No one asked for advice on how to get the update done.

I have the same issue. Due to uniqeness of our configuration, we need to bypass the update. Intuit support refuses to help. However, my accountant (I am IT) was able to "reset" it, we can now open the company file (BUT ONLY 2 MORE TIMES???). Unfortunately, she cannot tell me what exactly she did, other than run through "an install". We are still on R9 which wants to update to R10. Unfortunately, R10 will not install in our system. Getting "module registration" error.

Thanks for joining the thread, @auntmin.

I understand the importance of allowing the customer decide when to install updates. Let me make it up to you by sharing some ideas about the new QuickBooks update.

Please know that an update to QuickBooks desktop is different from an upgrade to your company file. This means you’ll need to do the update process to each one of your computer. Thus, the attempt left is per user.

To clarify, have you performed the troubleshooting steps given in this thread? If you did and you still receive the prompt message, let’s try these solutions. To start, download the update more than once by following this procedure.

  1. Go to Help and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select Update Now, then Get Updates.
  3. Close and reopen QuickBooks to install the update again.

If this doesn't work, proceed to Solution 2: End task on the following processes under the QuickBooks Desktop for Windows in this article: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Another way you’ll want to consider is disabling QuickBooks' ability to update itself.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Help menu, and then choose Update QuickBooks.
  2. Select the Options tab, and then tick the No option for Automatic update.
  3. Click Save when you're ready.

Re:

I have disabled the update process, but have not been able to "delete the pending patch". How does one go about doing that?

Thanks for getting back to this thread, @frilya. Allow me to clarify things for you.

Deleting the pending patch isn't an option in QuickBooks. What we can only do is to update the software manually.

Here's how:

  1. Proceed to Help and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click Update Now, then choose Get Updates.
  3. When the update finishes, close and reopen QuickBooks.
  4. When asked to install the update, click Yes.
  5. When the install finishes, restart your computer.

Additionally, let me share this link about a general troubleshooting information for fixing update errors in QuickBooks Desktop: Resolve QBDT Update Errors.

Feel free to leave a comment below if you have further concerns with updating QuickBooks Desktop. I'm always around to help. Keep safe!

We also need to avoid installing updates. Updates to the application always break our integration with a 3rd Party application using QuickBooks Web Connector.

Hello there, westentertainment. I understand your sentiment about installing updates in QuickBooks Desktop. Let me share my insights about this matter.

QuickBooks updates are necessary to deliver the most delinquent features and fixes for any error you encounter. However, if you don't want QuickBooks to update automatically, you can disable this option.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu, and then choose Update QuickBooks.
  2. Select the Options tab, and then tick the No option for Automatic update.
  3. Click Save when you're ready.

Furthermore, if you encounter error while installing update, check out this page for your guide: Resolve QBDT Update Errors.

Let me know if you have other concerns about updating or installing your QuickBooks Desktop account.
