Hi there, gourmet.

Let's explore your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account to know how your transactions are accounted for after a sale.

When you create an invoice, the total or subtotal will be posted according to the designated accounts per list. Similarly, the amounts for taxes are accounted to the category or agency assigned during the setup of that specific tax rate. For the invoices, the total amount before taxes is accounted to the income account associated with the products or services sold.

You can follow these steps to check what income account is associated with your products and services items:

  1. Go to the Sales menu and select Products & Services
  2. Look for the item that was added to the invoice and click Edit.
  3. In the Product/Service Information, go to the Income account section to see what account is associated with the item.

After following the steps above, you can start reviewing those income accounts for a better understanding of your business finances, particularly for a specific product.

For tips added to an invoice, these will be allocated depending on the Tips account set up. To verify the account to which these are assigned, you can begin by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and Settings.
  2. Navigate to the Advanced tab.
  3. In the Chart of Accounts section, see what account is assigned to the Tips account.

Furthermore, you can run financial reports in QuickBooks to get a grasp of your financial health track your business performance, and make decisions for it.
