Buy nowI recently switched to QBO from QB for Mac. While there is some flexibility in customizing invoices for QBO, I have found that it's too limiting. The canned templates don't look particularly professional to me. Are there any plugins that allow you to fully customize an invoice template in the way that you can with QB for Mac?
Hello there, @justonwo.
Let me help share a few insights about the availability of plugins to fully customize invoice templates and guide you in sending product recommendations to help improve the features and your experience while using QuickBooks Online (QBO).
For the time being, the option to use plugins to fully customize your invoice templates is unavailable in QBO. However, you can utilize the built-in tools in the Customize form styles feature to enhance the appearance and layout of your invoices.
You can read this article for the detailed steps: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
On the other hand, I can see how the benefit of being able to use plugins to fully customize your invoice templates would aid you in personalizing the look of your sales transactions with QBO. With this, I would encourage you to send suggestions or product recommendations. We take your suggestions as opportunities to improve the various features of our products.
Your valuable feedback will be forwarded and reviewed by our Product Development team to help improve your experience while using the program. Here's how:

I'm all ears if you have other concerns about creating and customizing invoices in QBO. You can drop a comment below, and I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @justonwo.
The suggestion is really quite simple. Make the template customization features as broad and the desktop tools. The canned templates look terrible, even with the customizations. You can’t move text boxes. You can’t add custom text boxes. You can’t edit borders. There are a wide variety of things you can’t do that are possible on desktop.
I embarrassed sending invoices with the templates QBO currently has available. They look amateurish.
I completely agree with this comment. I've used QB Desktop for years and was able to format my invoices to meet my needs. However, after switching to QBO I found the only way to get a professional looking invoice to send to customers is to export the Report "Unbilled Charges" to Excel and format that into a more professional looking invoice. Fortunately I only have to generate 3-5 invoices every month. If I had to do more than that though it would be unmanageable. I'm not convinced I'll be sticking with QBO as this is just one of many issues I have encountered.
