Mac Mini 2020 File Server Issue

Have a Macbook Air holding the company file.  Able to open in multi-user.

Purchased a Mac Mini to where I want to move the company file.

Once moved, in Single user, file will open.

Will not open in multi-user.

Sometimes it just doesn't do anything and sometimes I get a pop up saying "The document "OurFileName.qb2020" could not be opened.

I have two mac desktops (new also) and, to test it out, was able to put the same file on those other computers and the multi-server mode opened fine with the file.

Mac Mini - Turned firewall off.  All on Same network.  Tried opening file from desktop and USB drive. Tried moving to shared folder.  Verified/rebuilt.....Been on phone with support for 2.5 hours!!!  Getting frustrated.  Assuming there is a setting on the mac mini that is preventing as EVERYTHING is the same on all computers.... QB version, QB Server version, etc.  Running QB mac V19.0.3 R4 Build 838 all computers.  Unable to update to latest version as there is a bug/glitch with the link for sending invoices for credit card payment.  QB rep saw and noted issue and told us to stay with R4.

Any thoughts?

Mac Mini 2020 File Server Issue

Hello, Jennifer.

I appreciate taking the time to fix the issue in your end. I'd also get frustrated if I tried all the steps, but didn't get any good results. That said, I'd like to help you out in the Community space and fix this problem.

Have you tried doing these steps when you called in? If not, let's give them a shot so we can resolve the multiuser issue.

Before anything else, let's ensure that the QuickBooks server app is installed and running on the host computer.

Successfully opening the company file using a different computer means that there must be an issue with the copy in the Mac mini. You'll want to reinstall it using a clean install process. This method involves removing all files (including user preferences files).

Check this article for the complete steps: Reinstall QuickBooks for Mac using clean install.

Also, ensure that your file sharing permissions are properly set up on the host computer.

  1. Open the Apple menu, then choose System Preferences
  2. Click the Sharing icon, then tick File Sharing checkbox.
  3. Add the folder where the company file is stored in Shared Folders.
  4. Click under the Shared Folder column.
  5. Browse to the folder where the company file is located, then hit Add.
  6. Under the Users column, set the permission to Read and Write for Everyone or just specify the users who will be using QuickBooks.

Once done, open your company file in Multiuser mode again. You can also try other troubleshooting steps here

Your take on the Mac's setting might also be correct. While they're same across other computers, there might be something else that's preventing the file from opening up on Multi-user mode. In this case, I'd recommend reaching out to Apple's support or your IT guy.

If you're still getting the same issue, I'd recommend giving our support a try again. They can look at the system again and see what's preventing you from opening the file. Also, you'll want to follow up on the problem regarding the invoice link for credit card payments.

Do you have a case number? If so, you can provide it to the next agent so they can read the notes and proceed to the next step.

Use the same phone number to call us. If you don't have it anymore, here's how you can reach us:

  1. Go to https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. Select QuickBooks Mac Desktop as your product.
  3. Choose Company file as the topic.
  4. Scroll down and select Start a message (or any other available contact methods).

After fixing the issue, give our articles a shot if you need help with QuickBooks Mac. Look for a topic here, and browse a specific article.

I'm all ears if you have other concerns for QuickBooks Mac. Visit this thread again in the future and I'll be there to help.
