Migrating from Online to Desktop

I am moving from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.  All of my Customers, Vendors, Employees, etc migrated over, however, none of the Customer Transactions appear in QuickBooks Desktop.  Can anyone provide information on how to get my customer transactions migrated over from QB Online to QB Desktop.

Migrating from Online to Desktop

Hello, Rose.

When switching from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop, I understand that you might see some discrepancies in how your accounts are presented. Please keep in mind that when converting between QuickBooks versions, some transactions may not be moved due to export limitations.

However, there are several reasons why customer transactions may not appear in QuickBooks Desktop after migration. Here are a few possible explanations:

  1. Data Conversion Issues: During the migration process, there may have been errors or issues with converting the customer transaction data from the previous system to QuickBooks Desktop. This can result in missing or incomplete data.
  2. Incorrect Mapping: The mapping of data fields from the previous system to QuickBooks Desktop may not have been set up correctly. This can cause customer transactions to be assigned to the wrong accounts or not be imported at all.
  3. Data Filtering: It's possible that the customer transactions are present in QuickBooks Desktop but are not being displayed due to incorrect filters or settings. Double-check the filters and settings in the transaction list to ensure that all transactions are being shown.
  4. Data Corruption: In some cases, data corruption during the migration process can lead to missing customer transactions. If this is the case, you may need to restore a backup of the data before the migration and try the migration process again.

You may refer to this article to resolve possible data damage: Names, items, or accounts are missing from centers, reports, or transactions

Once migration is complete, verify your info to see if it is correct. I suggest canceling your QuickBooks Online plan to avoid any unauthorized charges on your account. I found an article with the steps to cancel your subscription: Cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription

Still have questions? Don't hesitate to reply to this thread; I'll gladly answer them for you. Take care, and have a great day ahead.

Which QB Desktop year version do you have?

@Rose Bassett,

Which method did you use for migrating?

Did you use exportqbodatatoqbdt?

Are you sure you selected the correct option under Step 2: Select your Data?

Keep in mind that migrating may sometimes produce weird results.

Note that since migrating QBO to QBT isn't really supported by QuickBooks, you may be better off using a 3rd party migration expert to assist with the process.

I had my IT guy do the transfer in front of me. Yes, he used the step-by-step process that QB has for the process. exportQBOdata... He actually did it twice and had the same results.

I have been using QuickBooks for over 20 years. Last year I switched to QBO so more than one person can be in the system at the same time. It took a while to learn the differences. I would have thought that QBO would have more options, but for my purposes, it didn't. QBO is great for some businesses, but not for all.

I had no problem transferring Desktop to QBO. It took me 3 minutes. Being that QBDT and QBO are owned by the same company, they should make the transfer easier. I feel that if I have to use a third party to transfer my info to desktop, either 1) if they can do it, we should be able to do it ourselves, or 2) someone is holding my information for ransom.

Trying to get help with this is a joke. I called the Migration Department, and they asked if it was for Online or Desktop, if I said desktop, the assistant told me that it was an Online problem and vice versa. Then I was told that I had to call a 800#, and when I called that number I was told that I had to log into my QBO, and click on HELP. I got the automated assistant and when I finally to to where I wanted them to call me, they never did! When I called Priority Circle for help, I didn't get any help.

This makes me question staying with any version of QuickBooks.

Still the same question. Which QB Desktop year version do you have?

I am going from QuickBooks Online Advanced to Desktop Premier Pro - 2 users.

What's even stranger is that when I go through the process myself, step by step, I can't get it to do the first thing! It almost feels like it is blocked. I tried that on two computers, and I will try again on a brand-new laptop that doesn't have all sorts of firewalls on it yet.

I think you have it backward. I am going from QBO Advance to QB Desktop.

When you try to convert data from QBO US version to QBD US version, you need a QB Desktop program running on your local machine. What year version are you using?

Can you possibly tell me when someone will be contacting me regarding this issue? On Wednesday, September 6, I was told that they would contact me within 1 - 2 days.

I am anxious to get my Desktop version up and running. I am still having issues and problems with QBO Advanced with no help in sight. If I can't get the Desktop up and running, I will need a refund. With a one-year subscription, it should start when you start using it, and since I haven't been able to use it, I have spent money on something I can't use.

Can you please tell me which support team? I have gone through Migration Department, Pro Advisor, Online -> Help -> automated to get someone to call me (they never do), and even through Priority Circle. They keep playing pass the buck and I don't get any answers.

You let me know who to contact and I will start with them.

Thank you for taking your time to answer.

I got your point, @Rose. Let me share details and help you call our phone representative for this topic.

I'd suggest contacting our Customer Care Team to seek assistance with your subscription. They also have tools like screen sharing to check the process and see the possible causes of your credit card payment.

Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to the Help menu at the top.
  3. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  4. Type Contact Us in the search box. Then, click on Contact Us at the bottom.
  5. Select the way you wish to connect with support.

Additionally, while opening or using your QuickBooks Desktop, you can see an unrecoverable problem. The following are the most frequent causes of unrecoverable errors. See this article for more information: How to fix unrecoverable errors in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist you; you can always reply with any further concerns. I hope you're doing well.

@Rose Bassett

We often encounter problems when converting data from QBO to QBD 2022 or 2023. We recommend that you try using the trial version for QBD 2021. Contact me in private if you need the trial code.

From what you stated, that there seem to be some issues with Desktop 2022 and 2023, but not with 2021, would it be better to just get Desktop 2021 instead of 2023?

How would I go about buying Desktop 2021 and what are the different versions? I would need two users.

You will only use the trial version of QBD 2021 to convert your data. I am not sure you can still find a new license for QBD 2021 in the market. I learned Intuit will release QBD 2024 next month with a higher price. You should get QBD 2023 Pro Plus within this month.

LieraMarie_A QuickBooks Team, I still haven't heard anything from QuickBooks regarding this issue. They seem just fine taking my money, but the customer service and specialized help supposedly with QBO Advance, is missing.

Please send me the code for the trial version of 2021. Hopefully, the export of QBO will go through so I can get all my information. Missing customer transactions and A/R are BAD!

If it shows up in 2021, then I can back it up to a flash drive and move it to Desktop 2023. Otherwise, I just wasted $1200 for nothing.

UPDATE:

I bought Desktop Premier 2021 - 3 users.

I exported QBO Advance following step-by-step instructions.

RESULTS: Customer Transactions and A/R are still missing.

Personally, I find the lack of support, passing the buck when you do get through to someone, and total disregard for how long-term customers are floundering without any help.

To me, this sounds like a class-action lawsuit because they sell you Desktop, and upsell you to the 'wonders' of Online. When you realize that Online isn't for you, they hold all your information hostage. You can't get that information back.

I have a business to run. I don't have time to learn to become a programmer so I can get everything switched over. I don't want to have to re-enter every transaction for the past 10 months, but I have done that before.

I would recommend using your old QB Desktop file to access your historical data. Then consider purchasing a third-party service to convert data only from last year. You can request a refund if the data is still not migrated.

What third-party vendors would you recommend?

I see exportmybooks, but having a 3.7 starts out of 404 ratings, with most of them Not recommending the product, I think I would want to find something else.

I don't know if I can use my backup through 1/3/2023 and have someone just do 2023. I am not sure, but if I tried to just add 1 year, it might wipe out the previous years.

Due to conversion limitations, you will find differences between your old QB Desktop file and the converted file from QB Online. You may consider the following steps:

1. Convert data from 1/3/2023 from QBO to QBD

2. Merge 2 QBD files (optional)
