Need to upgrade Quickbooks 2019 Pro for Windows Desktop

I am currently running QB 2019 Pro for Windows Desktop. Usually every 3 years I buy the next version from Costco and move merrily along. Well, like most everything, that has changed. I wasted a few minutes with the QB sales chatbot to no avail; total garbage experience there. So, some short answers please? Does QB still offer a Windows Desktop version that is NOT subscription based? If so, what is the latest version and how much does it cost? Is there an upgrade discount for previous owners? If no more Windows Desktop version, what is the conversion from Desktop to QB online like? Nightmare or sweet dreams? I only use the very basic features of QB, sales receipts, bank account register, reporting, and I have a subscription to QB online payroll. Please advise.

Need to upgrade Quickbooks 2019 Pro for Windows Desktop

Hello there, @axman53.

I apologize for the experience you had with the chat support, please know this is not the kind of experience we want you to have. No worries, I'm here to clarify things and provide additional information about QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) subscriptions.

Currently, QBDT's newest releases are all subscription based. However, since you're using QBDT Pro 2019, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Support since there's a possibility that the one you're using might be a non-subscription based. They can also suggest the QBDT version that's right for you if you decided to stay and confirm if you can avail discounts.

On the other hand, if you're planning to move to QuickBooks Online (QBO), I can give you a short overview of how it works.

QBO offers features such as automatic bank account updates, and the ability to access your books anywhere you have internet access. So basically, QBO is best for businesses that need real-time collaboration and access to their QuickBooks files from any device. For the full list of subscription features, check out the QuickBooks Online pricing page.

In case you need help with other QBDT-related tasks, feel free to browse through this page. It has general QuickBooks Desktop topics with articles and videos you can choose from: QuickBooks Desktop articles.

Feel free to utilize the comment section below if you have other concerns regarding QuickBooks subscriptions. I'll be sure to get back to you. Keep safe.

@axman53

Need to clarify your situation. Why are you considering upgrading your 2019 QBD now?

Need to upgrade Quickbooks 2019 Pro for Windows Desktop

Because I'm seeing messages that 2019 is no longer supported and that the 2019 version uses the IE7 browser which is also no longer supported and is a security risk. But my main concern is that QB online payroll will stop working and that would be a problem for me. Believe me, if I didn't have to upgrade I would not.

QBD 2019 has outdated since June 2022 and since then you cannot use QB Desktop Payroll to integrate with it. You can purchase QB Desktop 2023 Pro Plus to upgrade your version and integrate with QB Desktop Payroll. How many employees do you have to manage their payroll?

Just me. It's a one employee, one owner small business. Also, QB online payroll has worked just fine with it right through the end of 2022.

So I just spent some time on the phone with QB support. QB sells annual subscriptions only now for $549/year (Pro version, single user)! If you want to buy the standalone non-subscription version you have to buy it from a retailer. QB will NOT sell it to you. And of course trying to find a retail version is like trying to find hen’s teeth. All of that is intentional and by design of course. They know they have a lock on your business and are happy to abuse you as they wish. If you ask, they will give you a small discount on the yearly subscription rate, good for only the first year of course. And next year who knows what they will charge?
