Password requirements

Hi, I am auditing one of my company's entities - they use QB Enterprise 2023 Manufacturing and Wholesale.  Product number 538-185 (desktop).

During the new user setup process, the screen states that passwords are "Recommended to have at least 7 characters, including one number and one uppercase letter".  However, the Intuit website states that passwords should be a minimum of 8 characters and include at least one number, one uppercase letter, and one special character.

Is my company using an old version?  Or can they change the configuration somewhere to the updated requirement?

Thanks for any clarification.

Having accurate guidelines in creating a secured password that protects your accounts from unauthorized access is very important, WWFC1965. Let me provide additional details to help you with this.

The minimum 8-character requirement stated in the Password Security for QuickBooks Desktop article applies to the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2024. Meanwhile, the 2023 and lower versions remain with the 7-alphanumeric ones. Here's an image for a better visualization:

In case you want to have this condition to secure your account, you can upgrade to the Desktop 2024. These are the steps to follow:

  1. You'll get a message when you open your company file once a new version of QuickBooks is available, then select Upgrade Now.
    Update now.png
  2. Choose Keep old version on my computer to keep your current QBDT version, and pick Let’s go.
  3. Click Open QuickBooks after the process completes.

However, if you prefer to stick with your present QBDT version, you can still set a longer and stronger complexity password for your account.

If you've lost or forgotten your password, refer to this link for assistance in changing it and regaining access to your company file.

Password requirements

Sorry - not sure how this addresses my question,  Setting up a new user in our Enterprise 2023 Manufacturing and Wholesales version currently requires passwords to be 7 characters, one uppercase letter, and one number.  However, when I Google anything related to QB passwords, I can't find anything that relates to the 7 character password rules we are currently seeing in our version of QB.  In fact, all I can see is a requirement for passwords to be 8 characters, one uppercase letter, one number, and one special character i.e. stronger password rules than what we have in our version.  What does my company have to do to get the 8 character, stronger complexity?  Do they have to upgrade to a later version (and if so, what?), or can they configure the existing version to require the stronger rules?  Thanks.
