Hello, I'm new to the community and somewhat new to QuickBooks (some previous experience with a very old version). We did a trial run using QB Premiere Pro 2015 to see if a newer version of QB would do everything we needed. As it did, we purchased and installed the 2021 version of QB Desktop Pro. (Not online version as our internet connection isn't always stable.) We have two companies.
One company imported beautifully, no problems. However, the other company (call it "B" for our purposes) started having problems - to the point where QB would crash every time I tried to open it. I got the "unrecoverable error" message - 16810 88467. I finally managed to open QB without opening the company.
We've been working with a QB Specialist from our accounting firm, who asked if we'd tried to rebuild data. I cannot do that, as I cannot even OPEN the company. I found information on this forum about the File Doctor tool, but it will not open either. I realize it can take "a while" for File Doctor to open, but when I try to run it from the tool hub, it says "please wait while we configure this for you" and then vanishes completely. I've tried several times and waited patiently for about 20 minutes, but - nothing running in Task Manager or anything. The setup window vanishes and there is nowhere that I can "browse" for the file I want to try and fix.
The OS is Windows 10 Pro.
We've put several weeks of time into this already and we think it would be great IF it works, but so far...it isn't.
Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.
Hello, swampgoddess.
Thank you for the detailed information and steps you've tried to resolve the issue. First, let me share some insight about the error you've encountered while trying to open your file.
The most common reasons why you get an unrecoverable error are:
Let's try another troubleshooting step to get rid of these errors and get back working. Ensure to create a backup of your company file before proceeding with the process.
Solution 1:Identify how many users are affected by using a different log in credentials to open the same company file. If the error only happens in one specific user, that user log in credentials might be damaged. Recreate the damaged user. Please note that if there are no other users that can access your company file, we can proceed to solution 2.
Solution 2: Suppress your QuickBooks Desktop
Note: QuickBooks will display a blank screen. If you can highlight a QuickBooks menu by just hovering your pointer to it, your company file is completely open.
If the problem continues, please check out the unrecoverable Error: General Troubleshooting Steps for additional solutions to fix the errors.
I'm also adding this unrecoverable error in QuickBooks Desktop for additional reference and guide.
Keep me posted in the comments if you have any other questions. I'll be here to lend a hand.
