Since I have upgraded to QB 2021 + Outlook in Windows 10 , I have experienced repeated problems sending emails. QB will send email (flawlessly) for days then Outlook will suddenly stop, error out or freeze. I have contacted QB support many times to resolve the problem. All they could do is the usual select/deselect, close/open, restart, etc. which will have it working again. During the latest support call (5/18/21) to resolve this problem I was told to "Close Outlook then send the email from QB, this is how to resolve the problem". While this will work IT IS NOT HOW IT SHOULD WORK! Now I have to close Outlook, send a QB email, open Outlook work with other emails, close Outlook, send a QB email, etc. ?
I'm not software literate so I don't understand how QB will send emails flawlessly then suddenly stop. But QB will send emails thru Outlook when it's CLOSED. I'm a small business owner/operator that relies on QB and emails to work in an efficient way, this is not efficient. FYI: QB 2018 + Outlook in Windows 7 NEVER had this problem.
Any help is truly appreciated.
Kind regards
Tim Higdon
Hello there, @TIM HIGDON.
Thanks for letting us know about being unable to send emails through Outlook. I'm here to help you get past this issue.
First off, let's ensure QuickBooks isn't set to automatically run as administrator. Here's how:
Once done, open QuickBooks and send a test email or transaction. If you still see an error, edit your email preferences in QuickBooks. Here's how:
Once again, open QuickBooks and send a test email or transaction. If you still see an error, move on to Step 3: Check your Internet Explorer email preferences outlined in this help article: How to fix "Error: QuickBooks is unable to send your email to Outlook". Don't forget to update me here on how it goes, @TIM HIGDON. I'd always want to make sure everything's set for you.
Hi there, @ TIM HIGDON.
Hope you’re doing great. I wanted to see how everything is going about sending emails through the Outlook concern you had yesterday. Was it resolved?
Do you need any additional help or clarification? If you do, just let me know. I’d be happy to help you at any time.
Looking forward to your reply. Have a pleasant day ahead!
I am totally frustrated with the updates on Quickbooks. I have called the support team four times, and they do not understand the difference between WebMail, and the OutLook (or Thunderbird) appliaction.
I have been struggling with this issue since I purchased QB 2021, and cannot get the MAPI feature to identify or connect to either Thunderbird or OutLook. @TIM HIGDON Can you help identify the issues with Windows 10, and QuickBooks 2021 Pro, with Office 2019 (Installed) or Thunderbird?
I have used Quickbooks since 2003, but this a deal breaker. If I cannot email invoices, what good is the application?
I understand this wasn't an easy process for you, @Win10 with Fusion.
To completely email invoices, I recommend you update MS Office. If it will still freeze when you send emails, then you'll have to contact again our Customer Support Team.
Follow these steps to check if MS Office is updated:

Thanks, I am updating Office 2019, and will revert with my results.
I like regular Outlook also as my personal email but always had problems with QB to send invoices. A few years ago I created a Gmail account just for my QB to send invoices/receive emails etc. and it works like a charm. Just be sure to update your QB preferences if you do this to the new Gmail account. Hope that helps.
Alright, I updated Office 2019. Still wasn't found, so I followed the pathway on the article you sent, and the page with Outlook is missing comes to this solution.
Solution 1: Verify if Quickbooks supports your Outlook
Important: Outlook 2019 is only compatible with the latest release of QuickBooks 2020.
This is on this webpage - Fix Outlook is missing in send forms preferences (intuit.com)
I have QuickBooks 2021. Is this the problem?
Thank you for the suggestion, the problem with this activity is that I am a Cybersecurity Solutions consultant and this goes against my religion. I do appreciate the suggestion. But only as a Last resort. QuickBooks needs to work.
P.S. When my QB/Outlook stopped working I called many many times--that was when you could to a live person. They said the engineers were working on it but finally admitted that it would never be fixed. Just not compatible. End of story. So that is when I created my Gmail account used only for my QB business. It has a different name completely from my personal Outlook. Best of luck.
My reply for the trouble shooting is listed below. Is QuickBooks 2021 Compatible or not?
This is not the kind of service we want you to experience in QuickBooks, Win10 with Fusion.
Base on the article that I've read QuickBooks Desktop 2021 is compatible with Outlook 2019.
You can check and follow the steps provided in this article: Fix Outlook is missing in send forms preferences

Hi Deb. Thanks for the info, I have tried using 1-4, with no luck. I will continue and update you on my progress.
Thank you.
Hi Deb, I have exhausted all of the steps in the attached solutions you provided.
There is nothing that I have found that will enable the connection to OutLook or Thunderbird.

Wow, this support is horrible. How do I get a live engineer that understands that OutLook is an installed application?
I am still struggling to get Outlook 2019 to be connected to my QuickBooks 2021 Pro installation. My Case #[removed], I am finally talking to a level 2 support engineer, but she is also working through all of the steps above.
Now she is asking if I can use Outlook 2016-32 bit. What is going on? Can anyone help?
Can anyone identify how QuickBooks enables the OutLook option for Send Forms Preferences?
I am on QuickBooks 2021, is this even possible? Or am I chasing this down a dark hole?
I do appreciate your time in keeping us posted, Win10 with Fusion.
Yes, you can connect Outlook 2019 to QuickBooks in sending your forms. Installing the 64-bit version of Outlook can also help fix the issue. If you're not sure whether your computer supports the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Outlook, check out this guide from Microsoft.
One of the system requirements to successfully connect it is you have the updated release of QuickBooks Desktop. If you haven't downloaded it, I can walk you through how.
Then, you can use these steps in adding your Outlook email in the system.
For more detailed steps in connecting your email, you can use the steps and troubleshooting guide on this article: Connect your email to QuickBooks Desktop.
If you're prompted with an error when trying to connect your email, you can always leave a reply here. I'll be around to help you through it. Take care and stay safe!
