QB Point of Sale v19 multi-user mode stopping

We recently upgraded our Point of Sale system to version 19, and we're having issues where the multi-user mode stops working, and we have to change from multi-user mode to single mode and then back again before it will start working again.

This is really annoying and makes everyone stop work until it's taken care of.  And usually the person having the problem is offsite, and not there to have the person on the "server" machine make the change. I've seen this at other clients where this happens, but not nearly as frequently (it's happening every other day at this point)  Any suggestions?

QB Point of Sale v19 multi-user mode stopping

Thanks for posting in the Community, @BD Hodge.

In most cases, this issue usually happens in QuickBooks Point of Sales (POS) when:

  • Point of Sale has been installed as a client workstation instead of a server.
  • Point of Sale is attempting to reconnect to the company data file.
  • The POS database service manager isn't running and is unable to login your file.
  • The connection to the company file has been lost.
  • The company file was damaged.
  • The company file was converted to a higher version of Point of Sale using a Windows XP SP2 Operating System.

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to help isolate this. To start, please ensure to reboot your computer to refresh the operating system to its initial state and brings optimum performance. Then, log in as the windows administrator. It allows you to make any configuration changes in Windows and control your working environment.

After that, you need to restart your QuickBooks POS, create a test company file, and restore your most recent backup. The process restores your company file to the date, and the backup created.

Once done, rename the file.

  1. Go to the location of your Company FileC:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks POS 18.0\Data\"Your Company Name".
  2. From the Company File location, right-click the file name.
  3. Select Rename and enter the new file name. If you do not want to change the entire name, you may add a letter or number at the end of the name
  4. Open your company file in Point of Sale again.

QB Point of Sale v19 multi-user mode stopping

I ended up doing what I know fixes this problem in the regular version of QuickBooks Desktop.  I went and changed the user account that the database service uses to the Local System account. Then I changed the Recovery tab on the service to Restart the service every time it fails and to restart after 1 minute.

Haven't had a problem since.

QB Point of Sale v19 multi-user mode stopping

SAME EXACT PROBLEM.  Have to switch to single user then back to multi user, or goto taskmaster services and restart the qbpos database server which is quicker.

This and the freezeups and the socket errors are the main issues with v19.  Too bad we had to switch from 18!

Hopefully the next revision is better.
