Suddenly today QB Pro 2012 won't open any of my account registers. Restored from backup, rebuilt data, still won't open registers. Anybody experienced this?
I had/have the same issue with QB2018 Premier. I don't think it's a permanent fix but I used the Quickbooks Tool Hub Utility and had it run through the installation issues (Quickbooks Install Diagnostic Tool). This worked but I'm still having some issues. The can't open the register issue happened again so I ran the tool again and I'm able to see the registers but I've also had QB crash several times for me today.
Hi there, @backstagesvc.
If the problem is only company file related, you can refer to the recommendation provided by, @GeorgeIoak. Here's how:
Choose the Company File Issues tab.
For more details, please refer to this article: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.
Also, QuickBooks Desktop 2012 that you're using is no longer supported, this may cause some functionality might not work properly. To run your accounting needs efficiently, you can upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest version when you're ready.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I'd be happy to help. Take care always.
I'm experiencing the same thing with QBPro 2018. It just started today. It is the same on both office and home computer. I tried repairing from control panel but no success. I finally uninstalled and reinstalled QB and it worked. But when I updated QB after reinstalling it wouldn't work. I also tried the Quickbooks Tool Hub as suggested but no success. This is very frustrating.
Thank you for doing the troubleshooting, GKB1.
It's a good idea to start with those. Since you received the same error, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop support. They will be able to check your account and provide more assistance.

I spent all day yesterday on this. QB support was worse than useless. Repairing the file and the installation didn’t help.
The only solution is to uninstall and reinstall QB and NOT install any QB Updates. This resolved it for me.
As soon as I allowed the QB update to install, the problem returned and I had to repeat the process of uninstalling and reinstalling.
This is obviously a bug in the latest QB update but of course Intuit will never admit that. Hopefully they will eventually quietly issue an update that fixes the broken update.
