Buy now & saveI had to upgrade to a new machine, tech tried to install my 2012 version of quickbooks with the disc we have here at the office. When he put disc and started to install and half way through he got a DLL REgistry error and after that a fatal error stopping the installation. What we want to know is this a windows 10 installation problem or possibly a damaged disc problem? Is this version compatible install with windows 10?
QBD 2012 doesn't support Win 10. Try to install it on compatibility mode Win 7. Otherwise, consider purchasing a one time license of QBD 2021 to upgrade it and run on Win 10.

When encountering errors during installation, you can use our QuickBooks Tool Hub utility to troubleshoot them.
Here's how:
In the event you continue encountering errors while trying to install your software, you'll want to confirm Windows is up-to-date with its latest version and manually fix any necessary components.
If you feel the disc is damaged, you can download a copy of QuickBooks Desktop 2012 from our Downloads page.
Please don't hesitate in sending a reply if there's any questions. Have a wonderful day!
How do you recover a QB 2012 file that has been run on Windows 10 for months? The file still works but will not verify. If I try to upgrade, it fails when it tries to verify in the newer version.
I ran my 2012 QuickBooks on Windows 10 for some months. Now if I try to verify, it freezes at 5%. I tried to upgrade and that works until the upgrade tries to verify and then it freezes at 5%. Any thoughts on how to recover the file? Thanks.
Hello ConnieT125!
I know the reason why your QuickBooks Desktop freezes.
QuickBooks Desktop 2012 is one of the unsupported versions. This means that, although you can install it, it may not be compatible with your operating system. There'll be no more system updates and this will result in issues when using it.
Check this link for more details about the unsupported versions: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and upgrade information.
If you upgraded from 2012 to a supported version, such as 2022, and it still freezes, you'll want to run the QuickBooks Tools Hub. This can fix installation issues. You can find the steps in this article: Repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.
If the same thing happens, it's best to do a clean install.
Lastly, here's the article on how to upgrade your file, too: Upgrade your company files after you switch to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
I'm only a post away if you have additional questions. Take care!
Thanks for the fast reply. Since it won't verify, I cannot upgrade it. I've tried upgrading to 2014 and 2019 on a Windows 10 machine. All is fine until QB tries to verify the upgraded version and then it stalls at 5%.
So I bought a Windows 7 machine and put the file back on that. Still will not verify. Tried to upgrade to QB 2014 on the Windows 7, and same thing, verify freezes at 5%.
When I try QB File Doctor, I get a bunch of errors relating to the file being on a server. There is no workstation/server. There is just the single Windows 7 machine.
I have a backup from 8/2020 that should be fine since it was never run on the Windows 10 machine but then I have to reenter all the data for a year and half.
The QB 2012 file is running fine on the Windows 10 machine other than it won't verify and so cannot be upgraded.
Thanks for your help.
How big is your file size?
236,540KB
It is possible your file is damaged. Our experience is that Pro and Premier data files start to take a long time to run reports at the 150-200 MB size. In addition, Pro and Premier become more susceptible to data corruption and other funky issues if they get bigger. You may have 3 options:
1. Run the QB Tool Hub to check (and fix your file)
2. Chat Support and ask Data Service to fix your file
3. Buy a 3rd party file repair service. Contact us in private for details.
Once the file is fixed, consider to run the Condense Data utility available on QBD 2019-2022 to split your file.
