Join nowGood afternoon to ALL,
I need your help/advice for this vexing problem. I purchased Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2016 from a seller to learn the program. The seller agreed to transfer the license after the sale was final.
Recently i tried to transfer data from an older version (2012) but encountered difficulties. I contacted Intuit for assistance and was told that the license was not transferred to me and they do not provide support service for programs older that 2018.
How can i resolve the license problem to prevent the seller from using the program? He provided me with the original box showing the license number, etc which were used to install the program.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi there, @Longcay.
I want to ensure that QuickBooks Desktop data will be transferred to you successfully.
You'll need to reach out to your seller so you can transfer the data. They'll be able to change the admin rights under your name to prevent them from accessing the program.
You can provide this link as the reference on how they can modify the primary contact of the account: Change or update the Primary Contact on your QuickBooks Account.
Once done, you can now transfer your file from 2012 to the 2016 version of QuickBooks. You'll need to create a backup of the 2012 version then restore it to the 2016 version afterward.
To do that:
I've got you an article for your reference: Create a Backup of your Company File.
After that, you can restore a backup copy:
I'm also adding this article that you can check out about transferring QuickBooks to another PC: Move Your Company Files To Another Computer.
You may also consider upgrading your QuickBooks to the latest version, so you'll be able to work with your file smoothly.
I'd suggest visiting this website: User Guides. From there, you can get do-it-yourself articles, training, and pro advice that will help you get familiar with QuickBooks Desktop.
I'll be right here to help if you need further assistance with managing your data or any QBDT-related things. Keep safe!

What kind of difficulties did you encounter?
Anyway, to have a license code and a product code are not enough. Ask your seller to provide the activation/validation code as well. Otherwise, you should claim the refund.
