QuickBooks Enterprise -- Database Server Manager

Hi Everybody,

We are running QB Enterprise 19, a dedicated server and clients, recently applying QB updates on the computer running the server function, updating the desktop app, as it is being used to manage the backup schedule for multiple companies (company files), it ended with version 20, this version installed in parallel with 19. Due to limited time to work with the server, the service for version 20 were stopped, so everybody could work.

Yesterday users reported some users could not login, but one was working fine, checking the QB interface on this user, it was discovered somehow was working in single-user. Checking on the server side, I did open the desktop, opened a company and I was able to switch to multi-user, except that got aware as I did start scanning folders with QB Database Server Manager, that both version of the server were enabled, 19 and 20, I went to Services, stopped  and disabled 20, however, every time I will run the scan, version 20 service will be enabled, annoying!

I went and uninstalled QB Enterprise 20, I've noted the service was left there after the uninstallation, it is disabled, and now when I run the scan folders, it will not be enabled. Now I've discovered, the Database Server tab on the QB Database Server Manager is blank, and the Port Monitor tab is showing both database versions, different ports allocated, see screenshots in the attachment.

I've thought maybe the server needed to be rebooted, which I did last night, these two issues persist. Users are running the app, everything working fine, except connections cannot be monitored.

Have anybody seen issues like these before? If so, any pointer will be appreciated, thanks!

QuickBooks Enterprise -- Database Server Manager

It’s nice to see you in the Community, @JCAlexandres

I appreciate you for giving your time and effort to perform and try some troubleshooting steps in order to get this resolve.

Let's check the set up folder permissions in QuickBooks Desktop. Sharing a folder gives permission and sets up accessibility user level on the network to access and view files in the folder. Set up multi-user networking for a variety of operating systems.

Here's how to share an existing folder:

  1. Locate and right-click the folder you want to share. Then select Properties.
  2. On the Sharing tab, select Share this folder. You can change the name of the shared folder by entering a new name in the Share Name field.
  3. Go to the Security tab or select Permissions to set permissions for each user who will access your folder.
  4. Select Apply and OK.

If doing all the recommended steps doesn't work, I suggest giving our QuickBooks Care Team a call so they can further investigate and isolate this issue for you.

Please call them within business hours to ensure we cater to your concern promptly.

QuickBooks Enterprise -- Database Server Manager

Hi AbegailS,

Yes, the directory where the data is in the server is being shared, I use Active Directory, the server is member of the domain, so the directory is shared to give access to the members of a group in the domain.

I have a case opened in regard of the issue, I definitely will follow up with them.

I appreciate your input, thank you very much!

QuickBooks Enterprise -- Database Server Manager

It seems the above procedure is just a work-around on something else happening with QuickBooks, this should not be happening with the Enterprise version, unless it is "Enterprise", if you know what I mean.

The issue still happening despite the data directory is declared and shared, and remapping the company file to be sure the linking has observed the multi-user check box when opening the company file.

We've been using QuickBooks Enterprise 19 for a couple of years, this issue starting happening recently, I am thinking it is possible a Windows Update, or QuickBooks update broke it.

I am scheduling this system to be upgraded to QuickBooks Enterprise 20 next week, that should take care of the issue.

Thanks everybody for your kindly input!

Happy New Year!
