Quickbooks online desktop app no longer working and no support

The online desktop app is no longer working and no longer being supported as of Jan. 1 2024.  I am so upset by this and quickbooks doesn't care.  This is the whole reason we switched from desktop pro to online.  We had it all customized and now we are left with the online verion that calls things different names, different locations for things and you can't customize your shortcuts.  We have to "bookmark" pages and wait for them to load. I have 25 hours into working on this with Quickbooks and it was miserable!  I told them I wanted to be reimbursed for my time and they disconnected the chat.

I've used Netsuite before, maybe I should go back to that??

I understand how important it is for you to manage your business in QuickBooks Online, pmiconsultants.

However, to give you an accurate response, may I ask what error you received or what you've seen from your QuickBooks Desktop Online App while working.

In the meantime, let's try logging in to manage your QuickBooks Company file using supported web browsers such as Firefox, Google Chrome, or the latest version of Microsoft Edge. From there, you can sign in to your account into QBO.

Additionally, you can check out this article understanding about how to navigate and use bookmarks in QuickBooks: Understand the navigation menu in QuickBooks Online.

See I dont think you understand.  I am using Chrome, downloaded and have been running the QBOnline Desktop app for several months.  Whenever we click on reports or banking whether its from the top menu bar or the side shortcuts it gives the message: "something went wrong, we are working on it".  On the top menu bar, reports, down to P&L and it gives that message.

I get how to customize the menu in the Online version, but its totally different than the Desktop app.  Why isn't the Main dashboard called Home like it is in the App? Why can't I create a shortcut to PO's?  Instead I have to use the browser bookmarks and bookmark the page which is clunky!

Allow me to share some information regarding your concern, pmiconsultants.

Upon checking further, I've found an ongoing investigation about Desktop App Error, when customers run reports from the drop-down menu. Our engineers are continuously working towards finding a permanent solution, however, we currently don't have a specific timeframe for a resolution.

That said, I'd suggest contacting the Support Team so you'll be included in the affected user's list and receive updates through email.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help (?).
  3. Select Contact Us and choose a way to connect with us:
  • Start a chat with a support expert.
  • Get a callback from the next available expert.

The desktop app and browser have slightly different menus due to the User Interface based on QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). However, you still have access to most of the functions, as long as you have bookmarked them. Some options may not be available like using a purchase order (PO).

In the meantime, I'd recommend sending feedback so our Engineering Team can consider adding this feature in the next update. To do so, please click on the Gear icon and select Feedback located under Profile. Once there, enter your product comments and suggestions. Finally, click on Next to submit your feedback.

Furthermore, you can check out this article to learn how to prepare and move your company file to QBO: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to click reply if you have other QuickBooks-related concerns. We're here to help. You have a good one.

You may consider switching back to QB Desktop or Netsuite. You can convert your data from QBO to QB Desktop file format and use the trial version to access your historical data for good. Then you will start from scratch in a new program to lower your conversion costs.

I am experiencing the same issue when trying to run reports from the menu at the top of the screen. When I called customer support and they went to screen sharing mode they couldn't even see the menu bar at the top of my screen. I get eh same message..."something went wrong we are working on it". My accountant has asked for a specific year end report that I can only find in the top menu bar.....and of course it won't work. Extremely frustrating!!

I am also frustrated by the loss of support for the desktop application for QB Online.  I believe that Quickbooks is forcing users to move to Quickbooks online by leveraging the costs of Quickbooks desktop.  First they forced you to buy a new version of QB Desktop every few years, then every year and then they priced desktop so high that QB online is only option.   Individual corporations and small buisnesses can no longer afford QB desktop.  Once they price you into Quickbooks online, they supply a inferior product that is not supported. It is glitchy and slow.   Also its interface is not intuitive (intuit...get it) for previous Desk top users.  I am so frustrated I am considering switching to another application.  Any suggestions for someone who has been using QB Desktop for 30 years!

Of course mine won't open today and this is the first I've heard of this.  I was forced into QBO which quite frankly sucks and now I can't use the desktop app?  Very annoying.

Thanks for joining the Community and getting involved with this thread, aziller.

I can confirm the QuickBooks desktop app is still offered and supported by Intuit. You can find more details about it in our How to use your QuickBooks desktop app article.

When encountering issues with the QuickBooks desktop app, it's important to rule out any potential issues when accessing your account from a supported browser.

To verify my understanding, are you able to sign in to your account using a web browser?

If you haven't before, here's how:

  1. Confirm you're using a supported browsing application.
  2. Go to the QuickBooks Sign In screen.
  3. Under QuickBooks Products, choose QuickBooks Online.
  4. Pick whether you'd like to sign in with your Email/User ID, or Phone.
  5. Type your login Email, User ID, or Phone, depending on what you selected in step 3.
  6. Click Sign in.
  7. Enter the account password.
  8. Select Continue.

If the problem continues occurring when accessing both ways, it may not be specific to your app. Regardless of your results, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team to troubleshoot the situation. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a lovely Tuesday!
