Quickbooks Pre 2018 - Failure

I run books for a VFD which uses 2018 Desktop version of Premier.  Today when I open a file it starts fine but when you go to anything it takes 2-3 minutes before the mouse click does anything.  Did the HUB thing, uninstalled, file fix, etc.  last of all I installed on a new machine (above all WQB specs)  No matter if I create a new file which it does with no problem same problem on all 3 machines.  Seems its a windows problem but I'm at the end of what to try.  Any help??  I do not want to spend $500+ bucks to upgrade and now with the the subscription annual fees its a lot for a non-profit volunteer fire department to handle.  No file is bigger than 21mb.

Quickbooks Pre 2018 - Failure

Sorry for the delay in getting back on this.   First let me thank everyone for trying to help.  There was some confusion on what was going on but I did try everyone's suggestions.  Nothing worked.  It did start working again but not until I turned Defender real time off.  Made little to no sense to me  why that worked when it was working fine with it turned on.  There was an update to defender which gave me the idea to turn it off.  So for now its working fine.  So I guess this problem is closed.

Again thanks for the help

Quickbooks Pre 2018 - Failure

Hi, @Treasurer1179.

I appreciate you posting here. Allow me to share another helping tool to resolve the freezing error in QuickBooks Desktop.

Verify Data self-identifies the most commonly known data issues within a company file, whereas Rebuild Data self-resolves the majority of the data integrity issues discovered by Verify Data.

Follow these steps to resolve minor data issues in your company file.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu, then hover over Utilities and select Rebuild Data.
  2. On the QuickBooks Information window, select OK. Follow the onscreen steps to save a backup.
  3. Let the tool repair your file.
  4. When the tool finishes, select OK.
  5. Go to the File menu. Then hover over Utilities and select Verify Data.
  6. Let the tool check your file for data issues.

When the error is verified,  let's rebuild the company file to repair any damage found:

  1. Choose FileUtilities then, Rebuild Data.
  2. Choose the rebuild data option. After that, select the OK tab to close all windows.
  3. Next, create a backup file before rebuilding the company file and click OK.

For more information, refer to the following article:  Verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop.

However, if you continue to have frequent crashes, we will need to have this checked by our support team. They can use their tools to figure out what's causing the crashes and, if necessary, report the problem to our engineers.

  1. Press F1 in QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Contact Us button in the pop-up window.
  3. We can type something like "QuickBooks Desktop freezing or failure" or something similar in the box.
  4. Click the Continue button.
  5. Choose how you want to reach us.

If you are unable to access the Help menu within the program, we can use this page: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/help/en-us/contact-us?product=QuickBooks%20Desktop.

Alternatively, I've added this page to get helping articles in running balance sheets, profit and loss reports to manage your business.

You are more than welcome to post your QuickBooks Desktop questions again. If you have any questions about handling your transactions or accounts, please let me know and I'll gladly assist you.

Well, not sure you understand the problem but I tried it any way.  Didn't work.  No problems detected.  The data is there, it comes up then you cant access anything.  This happens on a new install on a new computer with a newly created company on that machine only.  Same issue.  It has to be a windows problem that is doing it.  3 computers with the same issue.  I can open the files no problem then after 1 or 2 clicks and delay nothing. Even when you go to make a new file, its no problem.  Once you try to actual use the file then you have problems.  Startup is quick so no issues there.

*** Left this off my org post.   You can watch QB in Task Manager and it will pop in and out of "Not Responding".  For a second just now it reacted correctly, you could click and type.  Then it stopped again.

Real Strange.

Ive run all new updates as well which I dont like to do, since I've had QB updates crash more then once of the last 20 years.  Yes, I have used one product or the other for a long time.  I understand this is an older version but it does what I need.  I only need the basics for this job.

I appreciate you for performing some steps to fix the issue of unusual behavior while utilizing QuickBooks, easurer1179. Also, this isn't the kind of impression that I'd like you to have when accessing your company file. With this, I'll be sharing additional troubleshooting details to ensure you get back on track as soon as possible.

There might be several possible causes why the program is frozen or stop working. These are:

  • Your company name may be too long
  • You could have a damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
  • You may have corruption on your hard drive
  • Your program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation may be damaged
  • You may have a damaged Windows operating system

Then, running Quick Fix my Program and the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool from the QuickBooks Tool Hub are usually the troubleshooting details that will resolve QuickBooks to stop working. Since you already performed that, I recommend renaming the QBWUSER.ini file to fix the damaged data. Please note that when you rename the file, it erases the list of your previously opened company files.

Here's how to rename the file:

  1. Open the folder where the QBWUSER.ini file is saved:  Users[Your user name]AppDataLocalIntuitQuickBooks [year]
  2. If you can't see the folder, you might need to enable hidden files and folders.
  3. Right-click the QBWUSER.ini file and select Rename.
  4. Add .old at the end of the file name (as in QBWUSER.ini.old).
  5. Rename the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file.
  6. Reopen QuickBooks Desktop.

Then, you can open this article to see further details and what steps that need to be done to complete the process: Fix issues when QuickBooks has stopped working.

If the issue continues to occur, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support Team. They have the tools to review your account and conduct screen sharing to help investigate why QuickBooks stop working unexpectedly.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to see information on how you can fix general problems when your company file won't open: What to do if you can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please feel free to click the Reply button below for any additional questions about running or managing your QBDT. I'm always here to help you, easurer1179. Have a great day!
