We submitted 1099-NEC's on January 1st and our status still say "InAgency." What should we do next? Can we print the 1099-NEC's and give them to our contractors?
I appreciate the additional query you have when handling 1099 payroll filings, hbp1. Let me provide information on the availability of these forms to print in your account.
If you prepare and file 1099s electronically with QuickBooks, we may email or mail a printed copy to your contractors. These forms are due to the IRS and your vendors and are ready for printing by the 31st of January.
E-filing these forms before January 28 at 5:00 PM PT will ensure that by January 31st your contractors can have their 1099s with postmarked on them. Once these are ready for printing, you can review and get a copy of your 1099s. To do this:

Is the 1099 hard copy mailed to the contractors even if it still says InAgency?
Thank you for posting your concern here in the Community, Amidas.
I’m here to share information about the 1099’s in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
If your 1099 filing status is currently in the “In Agency”, this means that the IRS has already received your form and is processing it. Approximately one week after the IRS receives and confirms submissions, customers who submit their 1099 E-file forms will receive an acknowledgment email.
Making sure to e-file these forms before January 28 at 5:00 PM PT, could ensure that your contractors will have their 1099s post-marketed to them by January 31st. Once these are ready for printing, you can review and get a copy of your 1099s.

I submitted our 1099 NEC forms on 1/19/24 and the status still is showing InAgency. Is there any other action I should be taking at this point? I have never had this issue before and my contractors are desiring their info. I know I can manually print from the Taxes area.
You don’t need to take any further actions, Mayer. We can only do that if your agency or IRS requires you to do something.
As mentioned by my peer above, the status that says “In agency” signifies that your 1099 forms have been received by the IRS. Once processed and approved, you’ll eventually receive a confirmation email about them.
I recognize the importance of getting prompt access to filed copies. QuickBooks typically waits until January 31st to send out the 1099s because this is the deadline set by the IRS for distributing forms to vendors or contractors. Furthermore, QuickBooks may still need time to process the information to ensure everything is accurate before dispatching them.
If you want to know the situation of the forms in advance, you may consider contacting the IRS for assistance. Please know that QuickBooks is compliant and solely relies on the updates from your agencies.
